Thus, endowed with auspicious names such as Amitabha, skilled in crafts, arts, and sciences, and with a broad mind, the Dharma king named Songtsen Gampo was born, named by the ministers based on his own merits. In order to establish the tradition of the sacred Dharma during his reign, he sent Thonmi Sambhota, son of Anu, and his entourage to India to study script and grammar with Lharikpai Senge (藏文:ལྷ་རིག་པའི་སེངྒྒེེེེེེེེེྃ་) and the Brahmin Li Jin, eventually mastering them. By adding and subtracting from the fifty Indian letters, he created thirty Tibetan letters. He composed eight treatises on grammar, equal in number to the great Indian grammatical texts, making them consistent with the Tibetan language. Translated the "Heap of Jewels Sutra, Cloud of Merit." The lifeblood of the teachings is the written word, therefore its merit is immeasurable. The king also learned from it and translated the "Zamatog Kodpa" and others. He taught the six-syllable mantra, Yamantaka, Dharma protectors, and many other teachings. He had people study in places for yoga practice, and many attained accomplishment. To suppress the land of Tibet, which was in the form of a supine ogress, he built temples to subdue the borders, re-subdue them, and suppress the regions. With boundless skillful means and miraculous powers, he invited the two Jowo Shakyamuni statues and Avalokiteshvara. He built the Lhasa Trulpa Temple, including the statues and their supports. He perfected the sixteen pure human laws. He invited scholars from India, Nepal, and China. Thonmi acted as translator and translated some of the sacred Dharma, turning Tibet from a dark land into a land of light. Thereafter, the reincarnation of Padmasambhava, Denjé Tsünten Tenzin, the wheel of steadfastness, the divine king Trisong Detsen, who manifested human transformations, was born. In his youth, a minister named Ma Zhang, who disliked the Dharma, transported the Jowo statue of Lhasa to Kyirong, and the temple was turned into a slaughterhouse and sheep pen. The king was very devoted to the Dharma, but for a time he was suppressed by unruly foreign forces, like an elephant trying to enter a great river, seemingly about to drown in the shallows of youth. However, with the strength of his own powerful arms, he fearlessly brought them to a place of peace.

After acting in this way, the vows of aspiration and prayer manifested with indestructible power, bringing ease and joy. The wisdom of the minister Tsanpo Gö appeared like a jade deceiver deceiving sinners, and he buried Ma-zhang alive in Todlung. As prophesied by Abbot Śāntarakṣita, Va Sānang Abbot Zhibötsho was sent to invite (Padmasambhava). After arriving safely, they met in the Ōmbu grove of Samye. The Abbot said, "Have you forgotten that we made aspirations in front of the Nepali Cha-rung Kha-shor Stupa for the teachings of Ödsrung to flourish in Tibet?" The Emperor replied, "I forgot because my meditation time was short." There, the Abbot blessed him, allowing him to remember his previous lives. When the Abbot taught the Emperor the Dharma, such as the ten virtues and the eighteen realms, the gods and demons of Tibet became angry. Red hailstones fell, the palace of Phangtang was washed away by water, and there were crop failures and great disasters. The sinful ministers said, "If this is caused by performing religious activities, then the Acharya must be sent back to his own country." The Emperor offered much gold to the Abbot and told him what had happened. The Abbot said, "The non-humans of Tibet do not like this. I will go to Nepal. The master Padmasambhava of Oddiyana is a great being in Jambudvipa. I will also invite him. You, Emperor, should do the same." Messengers were sent one after another. Later, Nanam Dorje Dudjom and others were sent to quickly travel the road. The master knew this and stayed briefly in Mangyul Gungtang to meet them. The master said of the gold offered by the messengers, "In my perception, everything is gold." Then he threw the gold towards Ngari. Later, he created the auspicious circumstance for gold to fall like rain in Tibet. Mount Dawabar of Mangyul and Mount Gungtang were exchanged. He brought the sun and moon down to the plains, reversed the flow of rivers, and displayed endless miraculous powers. On the way, the twelve Tanma goddesses and Mount Nyenchen Tanglha and others tried to obstruct him, but they were subdued by the power of his strength. From the valley of Todlung, he extracted water for practice with his staff. He also thoroughly shattered the drowsiness and latent attachments that arose from the king's arrogance in welcoming him, which is also a clear and evident proof. After that, he was invited to the palace of Drakmar Drinzang, built by his ancestor Aga Tsom.
