Thereafter, at the place where a king named Dumrisu was, a debate venue was established, proclaiming, "Who wants to debate?" Then, about five hundred people holding six views gathered. After debating for three months, a banner of victory over all was raised. There, he ruled by the authority of the king, placing everyone in the Buddhist doctrine. He also had about fifty wealthy people establish Buddhist monasteries. This news became a thorn in the heart of the Brahmin youth Rolava. He himself came to debate with five hundred attendants, saying, "If I win, make Dharmakīrti's life the remainder of his name; if Dharmakīrti wins, then I will submit to him." When he announced this to the king, the teacher said, "If my debate fails, whether to kill, beat, or imprison me, the king himself knows. If I win, do not hide this youth, but let him enter the Buddhist doctrine." Thus, the debate began. The teacher refuted Rolava's five hundred unique vows with hundreds of ways of refuting his arguments. The youth Rolava and his five hundred attendants condemned the asceticism of being devoted to ashes, mainly worshiped the Buddha's teachings, and the attendants all renounced. Similarly, the leaders of debate such as Kanadadoru, and all the hair-raising opponents who came out of the caves of Vibhuja Mountain, were placed in a place of silence. Afterwards, the teacher went to a place called Vadrali, where he also announced the debate to the local non-Buddhist groups. Because the heretical debaters and the light of the fire of victory were unable to approach, the heretical flower-eaters conferred like lions among beasts. Some were inclined to offer shy flowers. There, he restored all the previously decayed monasteries. When he was dwelling in meditation in the middle of the forest, Saṃgha Acarya of glorious Nalanda sent sharp thorns of debate, cutting the ears of the paṇḍitas.
