Then (na), Nāgārjuna (kLu) was extremely ignorant, and was criticized for being verbose, having little meaning, being repetitive, and incomplete. Therefore, he composed the "Commentary on Pāṇini's Meaning, Chandra Grammar with Supplements" (pa Ni pa'i don 'grel tsandra bya kar le lag dang bcas pa), and in it he said, "Brief, clear, correct, complete." He also examined Nāgārjuna's works. At that time, the glorious Nālandā (na lendra) Monastery, revered by the ocean of learning, was home to a monk named Kunga War ('kun dga' 'bar). Because he feared debate with non-Buddhists, he adopted an unadmirable disguise. He taught the Dharma outside the iron fence, and that was all he was. Later, the teacher Chandragomin went to Nālandā. At that time, Chandrakirti (dpal ldan zla ba grags pa) was born in the south, in Samanta (sa mntar), and from a young age he mastered all fields of knowledge. He became a monk and became a treasure-holder of all the Tripitaka. From the disciples of Lekdanje (legs ldan 'byed), and from Kamalabuddhi (ka ma la buddhi), a disciple of Sangye Kyang (sangs rgyas bskyangs), he mastered Nāgārjuna's (kLu sgrub) treatises and instructions, becoming a great scholar. Because he realized that the clinging to the truth of all dharmas is like illusion and dream, he could milk milk from a cow painted on the wall and satisfy the Sangha with milk porridge. Because his clinging to the truth of appearances disappeared into equality, he could penetrate stone pillars with his hand and pass through walls without obstruction. Adorned with many qualities of meditative accomplishment, his fame "Glorious Chandrakirti" (dpal ldan zla ba grags pa) spread like pleasant music in all directions, becoming an ear ornament for beings. He became the abbot of that great pure chamber and taught the Dharma outside. At that time, the teacher Chandragomin stood respectfully before him, holding the handle of his umbrella. In the sacred land of India, those who wish to debate stand, and those who listen to the Dharma sit respectfully. Therefore, Chandrakirti thought he had come to debate and asked him what he knew. He said he knew the "Pāṇini Grammar" (sGra pa Ni pa), the "One Hundred and Fifty Praises" (bstod pa brgya lnga bcu ba), and the "Praise of the Names of Manjushri" (mtshan yang dag par brjod pa). Chandrakirti thought, although this person is humble, he has actually admitted that he is proficient in grammar, the Sutras, and the Mantras, could he be Chandragomin (tsandra go mi)? Chandragomin replied, "That is so." Chandrakirti said, "Since you are a great scholar, the Sangha should welcome you. Please leave for a while." Chandragomin said, "I am a lay practitioner, the Sangha's welcome is too much for me."

La. Etang said. There is a way to enthrone the noble Manjushri on the chariot. Wave the fly-whisk and proceed. It was said that Manjushri would be obscured. So, three chariots were made, with the noble image in the center, and the two teachers on the left and right waving fly-whisks as they proceeded. When the Sangha came to greet them from the front, Manjushri appeared in person to Chandra Gomi, and he composed the forty-verse praise. Manjushri acted as the chief patron, possessing such qualities? he said. Many people who came to watch also saw it and said so, so he remained in place and became known as Manjushri Chief Patron. There, Chandra Gami's faith greatly increased, and the chariot drove as it pleased, going ahead of Chandrakirti. He thought, this person is arrogant, I will debate with him. There, Chandra Gomi relied on the tradition of Asanga and held the view of Vijnanavada. Chandrakirti relied on the tradition of Nagarjuna and held the view of speaking of no self-nature. They debated for seven years. During the debate, Chandra Gomi was being taught by the noble Avalokiteshvara, so Chandrakirti seemed to have failed for a while. He thought, this person must have someone teaching him to debate. He went to the temple of the noble stone statue, and saw Chandra Gomi there, and followed behind to see. He saw the stone statue of Avalokiteshvara teaching Chandra Gomi knowledge, just as a teacher does to a student. Then he said, Noble One, please do not be biased. The finger that was teaching the Dharma became stiff, so he became known as the Noble Pointing Finger. The debate was so long that even the village boys and girls who came to watch were said to sing songs that showed they knew a little bit about the subject. In the end, the debate subsided naturally, and Chandrakirti prayed to Avalokiteshvara. In a dream, he said, you have already been blessed by Manjushri, so you don't need it. But I have slightly blessed Chandra Gomi. It is said that the secret assembly of the sacred pilgrims also know the local history. Again, once, a poor girl was going to get married, and because she had no dowry, she wandered around various places begging. Finally, she begged to Chandra Gomi.
