Etc. In short, since Nagarjuna propagated the Dharma in the central region, the construction of temples and so on became more and more numerous, so (the Dharma) was able to develop. In the southern region, merely benefiting sentient beings began to decline. This is because the excellent Dharma was destroyed three times, and the Mahayana scriptures, both general and specific, were divided into fifteen parts, of which nine parts were burned by fire, four parts were destroyed by war, and one part disappeared naturally, and it is said that only one part remained. Not only that, but various sutras and tantras were brought from remote areas, or those vidyadharas who lived in seclusion on the border regarded them as their own lifeline or the life of the text, so they also spread to Tibet and other places. Later, those who saw some Dharma items in small temples concluded that there were or were not corresponding prototypes in India, and thus began to abandon the excellent Dharma, which is meaningless. If someone thinks that this is just a statement that the excellent Dharma has been destroyed, so it is understandable to say so, but it is not the case with tantras, then the courageous bodhisattva once asked: Please listen to me as I explain the principles of mantra as the sutra section. This sentence shows that the vidyadhara's tantras are listed as the fourth pitaka, which can also be understood from this. If we do not consider this, then how can we explain that in the pavilion called "Treasure", the scriptures that were not burned by the power of the water flow contained the five inner tantras and Guhyasamaja? In general, it is difficult to determine the specific time when mantras spread widely with argumentation. However, since the early Mahayana Dharma flourished, not long after there were one hundred thousand vidyadharas, and most of the people in the Uddiyana region attained the vidyadhara state through the path of Anuttarayoga. In this way, the Lord of Secrets and others simultaneously revealed to many fortunate ones and taught the mantra vehicle. They all transformed into rainbow bodies, so not many teachings were left behind. However, Heruka and others passed on the oral transmission to their disciples, and some passed it on in the form of relics, so Dzogchen and other dharmas appeared. In this way, the previous saints were very strict and good at keeping secrets, so no one knew that they were practicing tantra until they had attained accomplishment.

For example, like the venerable Nāgārjuna. When he became invisible with great miracles, or displayed great miraculous displays, people later realized, "Ah, that is someone who practices mantras." Therefore, the essential points of the lineage transmitted from the teacher to the disciple, in a manifest and orderly manner, are like this, able to measure its characteristics. Not only that, but because they are embodiments of wisdom, they are not forgotten by death. For those who have mastered both manifest and unmanifest conduct, arranging times and considering the proximity or distance of the lineage is merely a childish notion. Wherever there is someone who becomes a vessel for that Dharma, they reveal themselves on their thangka and bestow teachings, which is a well-known story. Regarding this, the basis for reliance and the arrangement of before and after are all manifestations of complete wisdom. Even so, there are transmissions passed down between Saraha, the Nāgārjuna father and son, and Śawaripa. Therefore, although Anuttarayoga does not often engage in manifest conduct, due to its nature, previous activities have flourished greatly, so most of the famous accomplished masters also appeared around this time. It is said that the Kriya and Charya tantras flourished greatly in manifest practice for about two hundred years. The venerable ones who adorn the Jambudvipa and opened the path of the great chariot, the master Asanga and his brother Vasubandhu, when the king named "Son of Buddha" called "Profound Side" was residing on the throne. A bhikshu of the three pitakas, who took birth as a woman due to the maturation of pride, was named the Brahmin woman Prakāpaśīla. Due to the power of past imprints, she had faith in the teachings and sharp intelligence. Possessing great strength of bodhicitta, she thought, "Alas, the teachings are so degenerate, and we have become women, what can we do? It would be better to give birth to a son from this body and have him serve the teachings." Thus, she united with the royal family and gave birth to the master Asanga, and united with the Brahmin caste and gave birth to Vasubandhu. Initially, Asanga was sharp-witted.
