From the "Unchanging Principle" in the First Supreme: Because one does not accept the vows of asceticism, the body becomes withered and suffers. Suffering distracts the mind, and distraction causes accomplishments to turn elsewhere. This clearly shows this. This is merely showing the greatness of mantra; is it not saying that enlightenment cannot be achieved through the path of the Paramitas? The name and meaning of the Sutra called "Great Secret Skillful Means" also implicitly mentions mantra and actually shows the path of combining liberation. For example, traveling with the daughter of a helmsman can eliminate the accumulations of a thousand eons, and killing a short-speared black man can eliminate the accumulations of a million eons. These are intended for the mantra vehicle that gives enlightenment in one lifetime, etc. If it were not so, it would contradict the accumulation of countless eons of merit. The reason for stating various views in this way is that in this land of Tibet, people only grasp a portion of the tantras that they find agreeable to their minds and claim that the ocean-like varieties of Dharma are untrue, which is close to committing the sixth root downfall. As stated in the Vajra Dakini: "The scriptures are easy to find, but their application is difficult to find." Therefore, it is difficult to ascertain the basis for applying the scriptures, which is the variety of tantras. Since the philosophical tenets established by those known as scholars and accomplished ones are inferred through thought, one's own manifest nature is solely the domain of the Buddhas, as stated earlier: "Philosophical tenets are the domain of oral instructions, not the domain of scholars. Philosophical tenets should be understood from direct perception, and oral instructions should be understood from inference. All that is to be known should be learned from the guru's mouth; that is the domain of scholars and Buddhas." Therefore, here, the empowerment of the vajra speech is from the tantra in which the intentions of all Buddhas are gathered. Eons of darkness and light are mixed together, arising and existing without beginning or end. No matter how many lights appear, until the definitive suchness of mantra is found, even if immeasurable hardships are endured, one will not become omniscient, one will not become wise. As soon as the definitive suchness of mantra is found, one immediately becomes omniscient. Known, known, known.

Transform! It is said. Alas, Bodhisattvas of inferior bodies, even Vajrasattva, the chief of all Tathagatas, had practiced immeasurable austerities for countless three asankhyeya kalpas before realizing the reality of mantra, yet he still did not realize all-knowing wisdom. Thus it is said. Therefore, the reality of mantra, co-emergent wisdom, and all accomplishments depend solely on the blessings of the guru. First, one should understand the characteristics of a guru, and what should be abandoned is: A guru who confers empowerment lacks confidence in the two stages, does not restrain the use of dwelling and wealth, and is attached to family. One with little compassion and overwhelmed by speculation, even if he gives empowerment, is like a monkey falling off a cliff. Even if empowerment is given by such a guru, the seed of Buddhahood will not be planted. Such a bad guru is a great obstacle on the path to all-knowing wisdom. Like this, without having received empowerment oneself, Taking mantras arbitrarily, lacking any of the three lineages, deceiving false believers like a pretentious deceiver. If a noble being arises who has bodhichitta and understands the wisdom of the meaning of empowerment that follows it, he is actually skilled at blessing the disciple's continuum, but for beginners, he clings to various views and the mire of speculation, and slanders them with jealousy, thus experiencing the practice of black dharma. Not having understood and grasped the profound meaning of the generation stage and completion stage, he prides himself on being skilled only in the creation of colored powder mandalas and the order of rituals, as if turning away from his own maturation and liberation. Because he fears that his own fame will be damaged, he hides the guru who receives instructions, or follows worldly fame, seeking a basis for his own desires, etc., these are great acts of degeneration. Therefore, no matter what dharma is taught, even if it is the unerring word of the Tathagata and possesses great instructions, that dharma cannot be the cause of activity and accomplishment, as the tantra says: To act as a guru without giving outer and inner empowerment is an act of breaking vows. To slander a wise person as unwise is also an act of breaking vows. The unwise
