In all mixtures. Thus, the secret place is shown. How many secret things are there? There are ten: four common and intermediate secrets, and ten suitable and entrusted ones. From these, the four common secrets are: the characteristics of the seventh root downfall, keeping secret from those with profound views but low intelligence and doubt, keeping secret from those with rude behavior, new entrants, and those with wrong views, and keeping secret the name mantra of the yidam deity and the signs of its accomplishment from others. If shown to the immature, it will lead to desire, and even if shown carelessly to the mature, it will diminish accomplishments, so it should be kept secret in general. As stated in the "Clear Light": Views, rude behavior, and The names and signs of deities, Are the four types of common secrets. So it is. The intermediate secrets are: the place where one practices, the time of gathering, the companions of practice, and substances, etc., should be kept secret until one engages in tsok practice or secret conduct. The place, time, companions, and substances of practice, Should be kept secret and practiced in the middle. So it is. What is suitable to be kept secret is: the special conduct of mantra, and all incompatible aspects of conduct when entering the gathering of samaya substances. What is entrusted is: whether it is the lama or a vajra brother/sister, one should not deviate from the instruction to keep it secret, saying, "This should not be told to others." As stated in the Shanta Tantra: Furthermore, the teacher, vajra sisters/brothers, Having proclaimed it secret for the time being, Such suitability is extremely secret. So it is. Thus, among the five root vows, not abandoning the deity and not interrupting the mantra and mudra are the vows of practice with special qualities. The other three are the vows to be protected because they become its companions. The vows of practice and protection are supreme. So it is. The branch vows are condensed into two categories. The first aspect is not abandoning the five poisons. The afflictions of self-knowing are thusness, Being seized by skillful means is like a peacock eating poison. Knowing from the beginning as the five families, it transforms into the five wisdoms. As stated in the root tantra: Ignorance, attachment, anger, And pride and jealousy are not abandoned. From this, how does one not abandon? One does not abandon with self-knowing, and one does not abandon with skillful means. The first is: The nature of afflictions is without essence.

If this is understood, it is the principle of liberation. It is also stated in the definitive meaning sutra: 'If it is said that liberation is achieved by abandoning desire, hatred, and ignorance, then, for those who are arrogant, liberation is achieved by abandoning desire, hatred, and ignorance.' For those who are without self, the very nature of desire, hatred, and ignorance is liberation. Just as a lotus does not grow from cold in winter, but grows from water and mud, similarly, for those Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas who have abandoned afflictions and do not create, the unexcelled perfect enlightenment does not arise. By generating a view of the aggregates as substantial as Mount Sumeru, one can generate the mind towards unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment. Therefore, afflictions are the lineage of the Tathagata (Buddha).’ This is what is stated in the Holy Vimalakirti Sutra. In particular, from the category of mantras, with the truth of directly realizing Suchness, afflictions do not appear as having self-nature, so they are naturally pure and need not be abandoned. Moreover, the five afflictions themselves are the lineage, nature, and activity of the five Buddha families, so it has also been repeatedly explained that there is no need to practice after the afflictions have been abandoned. Secondly, taking desire as an example, although it abides in the nature of clinging to and especially craving the five aggregates of grasping, if one relies on this path, giving alms can accumulate a collection of merit. Similarly, discipline and patience can also create great accumulations. In the Mahayana sutra, it is said: 'If there is no desire, the view of the aggregates as substantial will not arise.' If there is no clinging to self and what belongs to self, courage will not arise. Therefore, for those who have a view of the aggregates as substantial as Mount Sumeru, courage as substantial as Mount Sumeru will arise. Those who generate courage as substantial as Mount Sumeru are able to generate the mind to liberate, save, and lead to Nirvana all sentient beings whose limits are as boundless as the expanse of the sky. Furthermore, Bodhisattvas, in all existences, accomplish their bodies through the power of aspiration, for the benefit of all sentient beings.
