There is no third refuge other than the Buddha. As it says in the Vinayasamuccaya: If you wish to attain the supreme siddhi, It is easy to give up your life completely, It is easy even when the time of death arrives, Always strive to keep your vows. Those who keep their vows with great effort, even if they do not achieve it in this life due to attachment to diligence, will definitely achieve it in the next life or within sixteen lives, as the fifth vow says: If there is no transgression, It will be achieved in sixteen lives. If it is not achieved in this way, even if one is proficient in mantras, one will undoubtedly be accompanied by the transgression of deviating from the words of the Tathagata, so there is no mantra siddhi for that person. Even if he makes offerings, the gods will not accept them, as it says in the Chandra Guhyatilaka: Those who desire the siddhi of mantras, Should strive to keep their vows. Otherwise, the mantra practitioner, Will not accomplish the meaning of mantras, etc. The gods also, because of the vows, Will not grant acceptance even if entreated, In this world, there is great suffering, The world beyond and the hells, All are obtained by those who have transgressed the practice of vows, The nature of delusion. Also, as it says in the Guhyakosha, there is no path other than the upper and lower paths: Whoever is endowed with instructions, And if the vows and discipline are maintained, If it is not achieved in this life due to karma, The siddhi will be attained in another life. For those who have temporarily broken their vows, Let alone attaining siddhi, Even obtaining a human birth is difficult. Therefore, if you fall, you should rebuke yourself, And immediately strive to find a way to remedy it. Especially the first root downfall is extremely serious, You should serve the guru with reverence and offer the three jewels completely. Receive empowerment again, re-establish the vows, Do not stay close, take self-entry many times. In general, one should learn not to associate with those who have transgressions even for a moment. Even if one strives in this way, the root downfalls of Vajrayana are numerous, and our antidotes are few, so from the very beginning of a transgression, one should rebuke thoughts and actions that are not one's own, and strive to remedy them through the antidote of mindfulness and awareness, as the Sahoravasi monk yogi said: I have never been stained by the faults of Pratimoksha, but I have faults in the Bodhisattva vows.

Merely clothing. Regarding the vows of secret mantra, practice as stated (in the scriptures), that is, having committed minor offenses, but without confession and restoration of vows, and not having associated with offenses for even a single day. In particular, the first of the root downfalls is extremely serious. The *Net of Illusion Tantra* says: "To revile the guru, and to disturb the guru's mind, the offense of that, compared to the great outer ocean, separating the water droplets with a hair, the suffering experienced is equivalent to that extent, it is known as the Vajra Hell." Therefore, now you have the power to be liberated from such offenses, so you should serve and respect the guru to the best of your ability in various ways, offer the completely pure three circles, make the guru happy, and if you request empowerment again, the vows will not be restored. The Kalachakra says: "In order to purify any root downfall, one should enter this mandala again." If the guru is not present, or it is impossible like the road being blocked by obstacles, then practice self-entry many times until you see signs of the guru's pleasure in a dream, then you will be restored. The Garland Treatise says: "If the excellent guru is very far away, or there are obstacles such as difficult roads, making it impossible to go, then in that direction, not elsewhere." Thus it is stated. Therefore, from the depths of your heart, with strong remorse, and with the determination not to be defiled by downfalls in the future, instead of thinking that even if you commit offenses, you can easily restore them through empowerment and self-entry, such thinking is extremely foolish. Darikapa said: "This is said to those who vow not to do it again, not to those who have no intention of keeping the vows in the future. It is like some people who are poisoned, and doctors give them medicine to counteract the poison, but they continue to eat poison as before." Know that this applies to all methods of purifying offenses. There is a great difference between not being defiled by root downfalls from the beginning, and restoring them through remedies. The *Skillful Means Sutra* says: "Son of lineage, for example, if a Shravaka vehicle person commits a root downfall, then they will not have the opportunity to attain Nirvana with that body." This means that one cannot attain the fruit of an Arhat in this life. Similarly, in the Bodhisattva Grounds, a Bodhisattva
