The Mother Tantra tradition. The ultimate nature of reality, which does not abide in either extreme, is also referred to as the Middle Way because it embodies the meaning of clear light. For those who have previously undergone purification and possess merit, this channel is completely unobstructed, so whatever they think of will turn into virtue. For those with great wisdom and a pliable mind, the qualities of the path will also arise easily. If it is not abandoned, then from the moment the body is accomplished, the channels are accomplished. If the channels are accomplished, then the winds and wisdom that rely on them are also accomplished. Therefore, in order to be liberated through the key points of the profound path of skillful means, one must understand the way the vajra body abides. As it says in the Prasangika: The key point of the body is the channel, The place and arrangement, transformation, And the support of the wheels, the life of the body, Name and distinction, cause and condition, Action, activity, and characteristic, Affliction, karma, and the arising of wisdom, Manifestation based on the path, Difference between disease and elements, Differentiation by the boundary of the place of disturbance, By pressing, it is blocked; by binding, it is bound; By pressing down, it is essential; by tightening, it is clear; By twisting, it is hidden; by straightening, it is known; By pushing, it is empty; by force, it is seized. Thus, even by the key points of the channels, The key point of the Buddhas is indicated. And so on. The way of this is very clearly shown in the great teacher Vimalamitra's "Intermittent Instructions" and "The Great Explanation of the Nature of the Channel Places and Wheels - The Supreme Jewel of the Vehicle," so that is all for here. Thus, the three channels are like the life-force of the body. Within the place where they abide, the three syllables of body, speech, and mind abide like a main figure and retinue. Through this, externally there are the three of body, speech, and mind; internally there are the three poisons; and secretly they act as the support for body, speech, and mind. Like this, the central channel is separated from the navel by the two channels, rolang and kyangma. In the kidneys and so on, there are twenty-one knots like a string of beads. As it says in the Wisdom Chapter of the Kalachakra: The channels bound in a string of beads, The three paths of life and downward-cleansing. And so on. Among these, the three paths of downward-cleansing are like iron fetters. From the channels bound in this way, twenty-four major channels branch out. At the ends of these channels are seed syllables in the form of spearheads. These are said to be close to different places according to the distinctions of body, speech, and mind. And the way in which the twenty-four elements that arise from these channels, together with the twenty-four internal places, are formed is as follows: Like the half-lotus born in the water on the left, it abides in the place of the mother assembly, which is Purnagiri.
