In the case of "between," places and times, etc., seem to hold their own characteristics separately. Once control over the mind is gained, all those places and times are conventional. As taught by the Holy Stainless One: "For those who desire time to be short, may they be blessed to pass many eons in seven days." Therefore, similarly, the qualities of attaining a level and the qualities of receiving empowerment differ in terms of visible miracles, etc. However, in terms of attaining Buddhahood, from the perspective of taking the result as the path, this (empowerment) is closer, so the path is extremely profound. For example, a person who has received mantra empowerment is like planting flawless seeds in a well-cultivated field. By relying on dependent arising, the object of purification, which is the reality of the original ground, defiled by two adventitious stains, is purified. Therefore, since the practitioner enjoys the fruit of realizing the uncontaminated, unborn wisdom, the path also corresponds to the fruit, and thus it is called "taking the result as the path." Because this is practice in accordance with the reality of things, it is necessary to mature solely through empowerment, by adorning the cause with the result, or adorning the result with the cause. In order to mature in this way, it is necessary to understand well the suchness of empowerment. As stated in the *Yuganaddha* (Union Practice): "One who has not entered the mandala, who has abandoned the vows, and who does not know the secret suchness, will not accomplish anything no matter how much they practice." And in the *Buddha's Crown* it says: "For example, a house without children becomes empty merely by death. Similarly, a body without empowerment is empty of all wisdom. For example, the combination of a lute and other instruments cannot be played if it is separated from the strings. Similarly, without empowerment, mantras and samadhi will not be accomplished." Therefore, empowerment should not be regarded merely as an entrance to the path. For example, by burning, cutting, grinding, taking, and re-burning gold, the flaws that reveal whether or not it is genuine gold are exposed; by cutting, the life of the gold is understood; by grinding, the adulterated impurities and the differences in bad nature are understood. Similarly, through the unperverted lineage, the certain source, the instructions of the gurus who have attained accomplishment and are skilled, and in accordance with these two, through manifest realization by the wisdom of discriminating awareness.

Therefore, the meaning of mantra is profound and firm, and it is not possible to attain accomplishment merely by guessing its vastness. Why is that? Because all the Dharma doors of the foundation, path, and fruit of the Vajrayana are perfectly complete in the nature of empowerment, and the paths of the two stages are also included therein. Therefore, the tantras only praise empowerment. Moreover, initially, when preparing and entering the mandala, if one can understand well the refuge, bodhicitta, the common and specific vows and precepts of the Mahayana, then there is no need to separately study the Bodhisattva Pitaka, implying that one also comprehends the Shravaka Pitaka, thereby eliminating the wrong view that sutra and tantra are contradictory. Furthermore, one can also understand well the nature of the main empowerment, how the ability is established in the continuum after receiving the empowerment, which path to cultivate to receive the empowerment, and the reason for attaining which fruit. And the cause that becomes its master is initially completely dependent on the guru, therefore, based on the qualities of the guru as previously explained, if one does not understand the meaning of empowerment, then it goes without saying, even if one understands, if one has not purified the root downfalls, or if there are errors in the ritual, or if one is hypocritical and seeks easy methods, then I cannot establish the vows of the vidyadhara in the disciple's continuum. Just as if there are errors in the ritual of individual liberation, the vows of individual liberation will not arise. Moreover, if there are errors in the ritual, it only obscures the attainment of the Arhat, but if there are errors in the empowerment, it obscures the attainment of omniscient wisdom, therefore, the results of the two are like the ocean and the water in a cow's hoofprint. Therefore, the path of the vase empowerment is the object to be purified and the purifier of the generation stage, and the path of the secret empowerment is merely focusing on the warmth of tummo, which even non-Buddhists have, but one must know the interdependent origination that is the basis for the arising of inner wisdom. Even if only the wisdom with a target of the upper two empowerments arises, the guru who is not skilled in distinguishing between afflictions and conceptual thoughts does not understand the meaning of empowerment, therefore, even if the disciple has faith in such a person, it is only temporary happiness and the cause of gradual accomplishment. The secret mantra says that the guru is the actual Buddha.
