Thus, wash the characteristic tooth-stick with fragrant water. Fumigate with incense, adorn the top with a garland of flowers, and bind it with a red thread. Bless it by reciting the mantra that subdues obstacles, thereby eliminating speech obscurations. To examine the signs of accomplishment, show the flower to the disciple and give it to them. As stated in the Vajrakila Tantra, 'Manifestation of the World': 'To eliminate speech obscurations, bless the tooth-stick and chew the root. Examine the accomplishment of the four activities.' So it is. Furthermore, in the General Tantra, it is said that when a disciple faces north and discards the tooth-stick, they should look to the east. However, it is also acceptable for both the master and disciple to face north, as it is naturally an auspicious direction. In any case, with the root of the acacia tree holding the expanse of space, with the posture of chewing the root of the tooth-stick, and with a strong desire to eliminate speech obscurations and examine the signs of accomplishment, say 'Om Vajra Ha Sa Hum,' while widening the eyes upward. Do not let it fall outside with too much force, but examine the signs there. East, north, west, and south respectively represent pacifying, increasing, magnetizing, and subjugating. The upper direction represents vidyadharas, and the lower direction represents the underworld. Accomplishment is attained and it does not fall out. Repeat the naturally revealed root three times. If it leans to the right, it is liberation; if it leans to the left, it is generosity. If it slants, light a hundred butter lamps. If it falls, accumulate and purify extensively. Then, to purify mental obscurations, give a handful of water: visualize the fragrant water residing in the conch shell as arising from the syllable 'വം' (vam, 梵文天城体:वं,梵文罗马转写:vaṃ,汉语字面意思:വം), bless it with seven coiled mantras, and give it three times with the right palm or left palm (some say the left palm), reciting 'Om Hri Vishuddhe Dharma Papa Ni Tsa Ya Sya Shodhaya Sarva Vikavana Apana Ya Hum Phet,' beginning with 'Om,' calling with the seed syllable of speech vajra, 'Since all dharmas are completely pure, please purify the sins of this aggregate. Please eliminate all discriminations.' Have them drink it three times, and throw the remaining water backward from the left shoulder, thinking that mental obscurations are thereby purified. Here, others consider it to be for the purpose of eliminating speech obscurations, while others consider it to be for clarifying dreams, but both explanations well interpret the meaning of the mantra.

Since the aggregation of the four names arises from the mind, it is beautiful to eliminate conceptualization. Then, in order to purify the obscurations of the body and to protect it, a red thread produced from the Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: 吽) syllable, three strands equal to the student's body length, or one cubit and four fingers from a rosary, whichever is suitable, tied into three or six vajra knots, cleansed with water, and blessed with seven coiled mantras. To protect against obstacles in the white and red elements, it is tied to the left arm of a male and the right arm of a female, or to protect against obstacles of day and night, or inner and outer obstacles, it is tied in two layers, while reciting: Oṃ Buddha Mitra Rakā Dakṣa Sarvāna Svāhā. While reciting, touching in the form of a vajra cross, one should contemplate the body being melted and covered by vajra armor. Second, examine dream omens as internally, in order to prevent dreams from being disturbed by shadows and demons, a cushion and pillow of kuśa grass should be given. Just as it is said, "This kuśa grass is pure and auspicious," showing its benefits, the Tathāgata also took a bunch of auspicious kuśa grass from the grass-selling boy Auspicious, sat on it, and generated three samādhis and three wisdoms, in order to manifest enlightenment. Therefore, on the path of mantra, the Source of Discipline says, "The mantra of the Dhī (Tibetan: དྷཱི) syllable should be recited, and kuśa grass should be given." Therefore, the bunch of kuśa grass visualized as arising from the Dhī (Tibetan: དྷཱི) syllable is used as a cushion, and a single strand as a pillow, blessed with the Dhī (Tibetan: དྷཱི) syllable and coiled mantras, between the palms, reciting: Oṃ Vajra Tikṣa Vaṃ (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་བཛྲ་ཏིཀྵ།།།བཾ), and then given. The Net of Illusion says, "Palms, wooden teeth, kuśa grass are given." In this way, auspicious objects protect against obstacles and clarify good and bad times from dreams. The General Tantra says, "On the ground laid with kuśa grass, lie down with your head facing east." Lie down like the five lion postures. Furthermore, the Root Tantra of Mañjuśrī says, "The dream of the first session, know that it arises from phlegm. The second that arises is bile, which exists in the world and is base. The third is produced by wind, know that. The fourth arises truthfully." Thus it is said. The dream prophecy in the Secret Intent Tantra says: Vajra Master
