If the self-nature of emptiness is not found, when the stream of objects of the senses ceases, the nature of awareness that appears like the sky without ceasing, if one can firmly remember it, then the mind of the sphere of infinite space arises. If one becomes accustomed to this state, then one remembers the meaning of consciousness, which is the infinite appearance of the Mind-Only school. If one can firmly stop the purity of the six consciousnesses, then the mind of the sphere of infinite consciousness arises. Having become accustomed to this, even the subtle feeling of knowing as Mind-Only disappears, and like a deep sleep, nothing is seen, this is the mind of nothingness. Thus, clinging to the state of nothingness, and remembering that consciousness that is neither existent nor non-existent, one falls into a dense state of non-conceptualization, which is called the sphere of neither existence nor non-existence, which is the mind of the peak of existence. Thus, if one becomes accustomed to any of these four minds, and ends one's life in that state, one will be born in the corresponding four formless realms. The third is cessation: by stopping feelings and perceptions, one obtains the samadhi of stopping worldly feelings and perceptions, which is called the state where the proliferation of the mind is completely stopped, because the qualities of awareness have been subtly integrated into it. In terms of distinctions, there is cessation through analysis by intellectual examination, and cessation of non-conceptualization without analysis. Where do I place myself, stopping separately by analyzing or not analyzing. The first case is as stated in the commentary on the Entering the Middle Way: "Here, cessation is for the sake of stopping the proliferation of the mind." The second case is that although the nature of phenomena does not discriminate, from the perspective of self-existing wisdom, the compassion without an object continues uninterruptedly, thereby transforming the benefit of sentient beings. The Entering the Middle Way says: "Although it is meditation that constantly knows cessation, greater compassion arises for beings without protectors." As quoted before. Thus, these nine minds of meditation, for beginners, do not have the freedom not to arise. If they arise, and are grasped by special means, then temporarily the clinging to the truth of things will disappear, the beginning of the manifestation of afflictions will be suppressed, gradually the eyes and clairvoyance and so on will arise, and finally from the correct wisdom of the superior seeing of the Great Perfection of perfect self-nature, one will directly realize the self-existing wisdom free from proliferation that transcends the conceptual mind of existence and non-existence, which does not remain before the mind, thereby becoming the cause for obtaining omniscience, summarizing its manner.

Furthermore, meditation abandons attachment to the qualities of desire, and accomplishes clarity, supernormal powers, and samadhi. Wisdom, having fully understood the nature of phenomena, will completely transcend the three realms. In short, the wisdom realized by the noble ones and the meditation practiced by ordinary beings, if measured by the discriminating consciousness, may seem to have only a slight difference. However, in the face of wisdom, there is a difference like heaven and earth. Therefore, in the state of meditation, the mind is used as the basis for the path of abiding; while in the state of wisdom, the scattering on the level of awareness naturally dissolves, and the difference between these two must be distinguished. In this way, appearance is not tainted by awareness and does not fall into appearance. In between, there is no clinging to the unborn, the connection between appearance and awareness is severed, and the taker and the taken dissolve into nothingness. Although the nature is clear and transparent, there is no single-pointed fixation. Although it transcends the eight consciousnesses, awareness does not cease to be self-luminous. In the state of vast liberation and non-attachment, awareness abides nakedly and transparently, without the need for acceptance or rejection, expansion or contraction. Whether it arises, abides, or is neither, the thoughts of the three are like the continuous flow of a river. In an instant, there is no time to accumulate the habits of cause and effect connected in the past and future. Arising and liberation are simultaneous, like drawing lines on water, without losing its state. The cause of wandering in the three realms and six realms is exhausted, and in the state beyond mind, the stronghold of the nature of reality is seized. Thus it is said, in the Consequence School: The meditation of abiding without distraction is when the doors of the senses are clear, not moved by the thoughts of the mind, the mind that examines awareness itself, and the two that do not stray outwards. It is also said: The nature of emptiness and clarity is awareness, not mixed with any nature, the extremes of the taker and the taken are exhausted, and the nature of reality is pure in its own essence. Although this is so, the way to cut off its understanding. If conceptual thought is connected with an object, it is ordinary. In the awareness that is as clear as a mirror, the realm of appearance is uninterrupted, shining like stars, but not tainted by the thoughts of discrimination, the connection between the object of grasping and the mind of grasping is severed, and each self-awareness does not discriminate, and now has reached the realm of supreme wisdom. Therefore, the mind of the nine stages of absorption, which mainly focuses on gathering the mind inward.
