Holders are each the self-aware wisdom. In the concise instructions on Manjushri's view, it says: Wisdom is the mind that penetrates, without any imprints. So it is said. Proclaiming the clamor of insight in the great solitary monastery of tranquility is a manifestation of not distinguishing well between what is and how many. The Noble Cloud of Jewels Sutra says: Tranquility is the one-pointedness of mind. Insight is to accurately discern the Dharma as it is. This is clear. Therefore, ultimately not knowing that tranquility and insight are of the same essence, without distinction, and taking all abiding as tranquility and all examination as insight, is something that has become different from the teachings of the Tathagata. The Bodhisattva Pitaka Sutra says: The tranquility of a Bodhisattva is correct thought, not abiding in the notion of tranquility. Insight is the seeing of views, and even the view itself is not seen. Whoever sees in this way sees correctly. Because it contradicts this. Separately, there are two divisions in the aspect of duality: arising from wisdom and arising from instructions. Arising from wisdom, conforming to sound, single-pointedly pacifying the meaning of what is heard, and from that, realizing the meaning, is the characteristic of insight. Arising from instructions, following the meaning, the mind unmoving is tranquility, and knowing its nature is insight. As it is said in the Noble Sutra Unraveling the Intention: Tranquility and insight are two: arising from wisdom and arising from instructions. Arising from wisdom is: attending to the words of the twelve scriptures is tranquility, and realizing their meaning is insight. Arising from instructions is: making the mind unmoving with instructions is tranquility, and realizing its meaning is insight. So it is said. Therefore, if one does not understand the difference that the former is the preparation for meditation and the latter is the actual practice, then even after reaching the destination, one will not abandon the effort of the path, and therefore one will not attain the pacification of the senses. Even so, the way to combine with the faculties of the individual is: In short, the best relax negative thoughts into the Dharmakaya. When good and bad are equal, there is no need to rely on antidotes. The middling combine faith and clarity, and become accustomed to the path.

Therefore, all thoughts of good and bad dissolve into the realm of reality. For those of lower faculties, one should first cultivate shamatha (calm abiding). Once stability is gained on the object of focus, and one becomes accustomed to the wisdom of vipassanā (insight), gradually, just as one cannot find earth and stones on the Isle of Gold, whatever thoughts of mind and mental events arise, they will appear as the great primordial liberation, inseparable from appearance and mind. Furthermore, for those of superior faculties, awareness becomes firm, and no matter how many illusions of samsara arise, such as discursive thoughts and afflictions, at the very moment they arise, they are utterly liberated in the dharmakāya, so that good does not add benefit, and bad does not bring harm. Therefore, there is no need to rely on antidotes, because awareness, which has never lingered on an object, arises and liberates simultaneously in the state of awareness, as it is said in Self-Arisen: 'Because there is no birth, there is no cessation; because there is no grasping, there is self-liberation.' Moreover, in the Kunjed Gyalpo Tantra, it says: 'Without artificiality, in the intention of the Victorious Ones, whatever thoughts of mind and mental events arise, knowing that they abide in the state of unbornness, one is free from all concepts of seeking and signs.' For those of middling faculties, without losing the understanding of the view of unbornness, by practicing free from dullness and agitation, in the samādhi of united shamatha and vipassanā, all the elaborations of mind and mental events will dissolve into the space-like realm, just as clouds dissipate, as it is said in the Samādhirāja Sūtra: 'Just as in the sky, there is little cloudiness, and in an instant, a circle of clouds appears, having arisen, it vanishes, and the circle of clouds is no more. One should investigate from where it first arose. All phenomena should be known in the same way.' Furthermore, the difference between dullness and sinking is: dullness is close to the obscured, the unstated, and the non-virtuous, while sinking belongs to the category of ignorance. Therefore, the śrāvakas of Master Asanga also distinguished them separately. For those of lower faculties, the mind is scattered and untamed, like a monkey, the wind stirs the mind, making it unable to stay still for even a moment. Therefore, one must diligently cultivate, as it is said in the Kunjed Gyalpo Tantra: 'The purity of two and non-two is named as cultivation and non-cultivation.' That is to say, focusing the mind on the object, like a lamp that is not moved by the wind, this is the one-pointed shamatha of consciousness.
