If a diligent monk cultivates the idea of impurity and bones and it appears, then why doesn't the habituation of beginningless habits appear? The son of the gods said: Why do various forms appear due to the power of habituation? Manjushri said: All appearances are uncertain. The appearance of some is the darkness of others. For example, even in just the earth, there are those who perceive the earth as earth. There are those who perceive the earth as fire. There are those who perceive the earth as enjoyment. There are those who perceive the earth as suffering. For fire, some perceive it as fire. For fire, some perceive it as enjoyment. For fire, some perceive it as a dwelling. For fire, some perceive it as food. For water, some perceive it as water. For water, some perceive it as fire. There are those who perceive water as blood. There are those who perceive water as nectar. There are those who perceive water as a dwelling. For the sky, some perceive it as the sky. For the sky, some perceive it as a dwelling. For the sky, some perceive it as earth. Therefore, since it is uncertain, whatever appears is due to the power of habituation. So it is said. Thus, perceiving the four elements as their respective selves is the appearance of human beings. Furthermore, even in the same earth, hell beings perceive it as hell, farmers perceive it as enjoyment, and those oppressed by karma perceive it as suffering. Similarly, for fire, the mother goddess perceives it as enjoyment, the preta with a body of fire perceives it as a dwelling, and the fire insect perceives it as food. For water as well. Hell beings perceive it as hell, pretas perceive it as pus and blood, Hati's elephants perceive it as a dwelling, the gods perceive it as nectar, and others, such as those who control others' emanations, perceive it as rain of jewels and flowers, and the nagas perceive it as a dwelling. For the sky, the Tirthikas perceive it as a dwelling, and the gods perceive it as earth. From the Two Truths: One thing, minds are different, and therefore, what is seen is not the true meaning. So it is said. All of that is the way in which beings' own karmic appearances and habits are transformed by conceptualization. From the Secret Essence: By grasping at conceptualization as self, one forcibly ties a knot in the sky. Without bondage and without liberation, the Buddha's Dharma is spontaneously perfect from the beginning. To teach this, he performs various displays. So it is said. Even so, the object of appearance is not the mind. Although the reflection of a face enters a mirror, it is merely a condition that arises in dependence.

Face and mirror have never been mixed. Thus, when the image of a face appears in the mirror, the clarity of the mirror itself becomes the basis for the appearance of the image, and it is related to it in the form of a face, or it is merely an appearance due to the gathering of factors that produce the effect of the face. The image that appears from the face is neither the real face, nor does it produce the form of a face from the face. Similarly, the various phenomena that appear in illusion are merely appearances due to the interdependence of causes and conditions, and they do not exist in reality. As it is said in the "King of Samadhi Sutra": "In the mirror or in the oil lamp, When women look at themselves with makeup, The mandala of the face appears, But it is neither existent nor nonexistent. All dharmas should be understood in the same way, Wise people should understand it in this way." If we want to explore its nature, it is the state of being born from the gathering of the apprehended and the apprehender. The mind that mistakenly clings to the appearance that is non-existent. It is like seeing a rope and mistaking it for a snake. The first consciousness is the object of apprehension, And the subsequent discrimination is the apprehender. Therefore, the characteristic of appearance is that it appears even though it does not exist, and it is no different from the consciousness of a dream, but the mind that mistakenly clings to it is sudden, for example: Taking the external object of the form aggregate as an example, the first moment of seeing a rope is not a snake, but it is undoubtedly thought to be a snake, which is the part of the mind produced by the feeling aggregate, and the first moment is the object of apprehension. The mind of the apprehender is born from the subsequent mental factors, and it is the nature of the aggregate of perception. As it is said in the conduct of Avalokiteshvara: "Among them, the apprehended is the mind that clings to the object, and the apprehender is born from the mind that discriminates it." Thus, those who do not understand and are arrogant believe that the apprehended is only the gross appearance of the external object, and that the apprehender is only their own consciousness, which is a greater illusion than other illusions. In order to refute this view. If it is thought that appearing as a snake is the apprehended, And the apprehender is the master consciousness, Then the person who cannot distinguish between appearance and the object of appearance, Will also exist or not exist together with the appearance itself. The meaning of what is said above is that merely these apprehended and apprehender are very ignorant.
