O! This body is always of the nature of being smeared, rubbed, destroyed, and separated, it is illusory. This body is tormented by four hundred and four diseases. This body is always oppressed by old age, like an old well. This body is the ultimate end of death, and ultimately cannot abide. This body is completely occupied by aggregates, elements, and sense bases, like an executioner, virulent poison, and an empty city. You should generate disgust and weariness towards such a body, and generate faith in the body of the Tathagata. Thus, through thinking about the nature of the body being extremely shaky and unstable, etc., one should initiate diligence. Initiating diligence must be done in this way, which is well-spoken and profound in meaning in the great collections of scriptures, as the noble Nagarjuna also said: "The powerful one, with the observation and mindfulness of the body, the Sugata has, shown as the only path to go." And also said: "If a fire suddenly breaks out on the head or clothes, in order to prevent those, put aside what should be done, and strive to have no rebirth, there is nothing more important than this." This is the quick end of the words urging diligence. Similarly, the teacher Chandrabha wrote to his disciple: "The human thing is extremely difficult to obtain, once obtained, one should persevere and strive to accomplish whatever one desires. Like the flame of an oil lamp being blown by a strong wind, life cannot even be sure of abiding for a moment." Thus, the opposite of diligence, the antidote to laziness, the most excellent is only mindfulness of impermanence, this is the essence of the oral instructions. Therefore, one must initiate the reason for diligence that is not mixed with laziness. The dirt of laziness, the diligence of Dagpo, does not show the bias of slow flowing, but until reaching the ocean of omniscience, do not abandon the wavering and swift conduct. Regarding this, the rivers use the example of making it unsuitable with turbid dirt, the opposite of diligence is only laziness, so the path of sometimes being diligent and sometimes not being diligent is far from Bodhi and full of weariness, therefore one should understand the reason for its faults, as it is said in the Sutra on Mindfulness: "One of the three roots of afflictions is laziness, wherever it exists."

Whoever has laziness, has no Dharma at all. Thus, although diligence is placed in one category, in reality, it is a friend to all six perfections. If it is absent, the others will also decline. As asked by Blo gros rgya mtsho: For the lazy, enlightenment is very distant and extremely far. For the lazy, there is no giving, and so on up to wisdom. For the lazy, there is no benefit to others. Thus, because of this absence, the nature of ripening is also dark. In the Mother Sutra, it also says: Laziness cannot even accomplish one's own benefit, let alone the benefit of others. The ripening of laziness is that sentient beings will be born in hells, the animal realm, and the realm of Yama. Just as without the wind that causes movement, the function of shaking and quickening cannot be accomplished, the nature of enlightenment depends on the great ground of virtue, the accumulation of merit and wisdom, and without diligence, these will not arise. Therefore, in this way, enlightenment abides in diligence, just as without wind there is no movement, merit will not arise without diligence. Therefore, considering the benefits of diligence and the faults of laziness, I vow to enter and practice the conduct of a Bodhisattva. For each fault, purify its imprints; for each quality, increase it. Our teacher also, for many eons, made it habitual in the stages of the path of learning. My conduct is merely guarding laziness and destroying diligence, wasting the leisure and endowments of the human body, and thus I urge myself. I have never generated even a small amount of habituation to qualities. How did I obtain this rare birth, which I have made meaningless, it is strange! Thus, generating a strong desire for that fault, just as an elephant scorched by the sun, in the heat of midday, enters without hesitation into a lake adorned with lotuses, without any obstacle, striving with insatiable diligence, one will generate transcendent diligence in one's own mind. From the Earth-Essence Ten-Wheels Sutra: Transcendent diligence is

The Bodhisattva, with extremely diligent effort, eliminates all afflictions, karma, and all sufferings for all sentient beings with an equal mind, engages in actions without any object of focus, and initiates diligence with a non-abiding mind. He initiates diligence without dwelling in the three realms. He engages in diligence without discriminating about the ripening results, and diligence without dwelling on gain or loss. That is the diligence that transcends the world. As it is said. Now, at the beginning of explaining the Perfection of Meditation, first, the causes and conditions for accomplishing meditation are explained. First, the qualities of the forest are explained: The forest is a medicinal landscape where flowers bloom profusely, relying on extremely peaceful faith. It has lovely rocky cliffs and is adorned with young animals. There, all the ground is covered with green grass and clusters of shrubs. The forest is like the neck of a peacock, and the flowers born from various kinds of trees and saplings make the surroundings beautiful. The cool stream water makes a sound that is not too rough, falling on good steps, making a pleasant sound. The distinctions between hills and valleys become smooth. In suitable places, there are lakes, ponds, pools, and puddles, and harmless, slow-flowing rivers surrounded by watercress, where mandarin ducks swim in pairs, their behavior peaceful. It is filled with the buzzing sound of bees. In between, there are good rocky mountains, like stacked cliffs, with smooth surfaces and vibrant colors, with natural caves and bird shelters, and places for animals to rest. The birds and animals are lovely, comfortable to be with, without thoughts of anger or harm, loving each other, feeling safe, and naturally calming the mind of the meditator. As it is said in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": In the forest, birds and animals, and trees do not make unpleasant sounds. When will I be able to live together with those beings who are comfortable to be with? When will I be able to dwell under a tree in a cave or an empty temple, without looking back, becoming unattached? Thus it is said. Also, joyful
