Therefore, relying on the three ascetic practices that can forgive all sins, one can protect oneself, so one should increase wisdom. The perfection of diligence is: For diligence that is not overdue, like swans walking in a pleasure garden, one freely enters all virtuous dharmas, without passing through the cliff of laziness. Therefore, the nature of diligence is a single-pointed mind that is manifestly joyful towards virtue, and it is not overdue. For example, in a desolate temple or a place full of fear, with hailstones falling, a grieving swan couple, when the ability of their offspring is complete, single-mindedly go to a pleasure garden, without being interrupted by laziness or hesitation. In the Three Vows it is said: Supreme Bodhi is attained through effort; if it were not so, rabbits and cats would also attain Bodhi. It also says: You should be homeless and unmixed, and do not gather cattle and donkeys. You should not choose a place of laziness. Abandon non-virtuous dharmas and be diligent in virtuous dharmas. Light Protector (འོད་སྲུངས།). I praise dwelling in virtue and abandoning noise in many ways. Again, in order to show abandoning the aspects that are incompatible with this: Entangled by the ropes of evil deeds and attachments, and noise, suppressed by the power of laziness, also abandoning the ability to strive, despising oneself, becoming depressed, taking on false asceticism, such a person rides on the ship of sin. Therefore, we have heard many collections of the Great Vehicle and the Small Vehicle, and have promised to practice, but in reality, for all the burdens that rely on the ripening fruits of great virtuous deeds, such as those arising from generosity, those arising from discipline, and those arising from meditation, due to laziness, one does not give assistance, craves sleep, and although widely known in the world, one clings to evil deeds for perverted diligence that is not suitable here, like the power of sesame oil mixed into a container, and one enjoys worldly noise such as commerce and agriculture, like a silkworm entangling its own silk, and upon seeing a slight difficulty, one thinks: This matter will surely not succeed.

Becoming lazy, destroying the power of the mind, and also losing ability due to one's own actions; because of despising oneself, the opposing side collapses, and the mind becomes discouraged, accepting the conduct of despondency, etc., is like riding a ship full of many faults and with loose iron nails, even small adverse conditions will cause obstacles to it. If one becomes weak, even small downfalls will cause harm. For those who are discouraged and abandon effort, where will there be an opportunity to be liberated from poverty? It is like that. In particular, first making a commitment, but then habitually abandoning it, the similar cause of this action will lead to an increase in sins in this life, and in the next life, its result will be an increase in suffering, and nothing that is done will be successful. It is best not to start, but once started, do not retreat. In the next life, one will also become accustomed to this behavior, sins and suffering will increase, and other and the time of fruition will also become inferior, and that matter will not succeed. It is like that. In general, the activity of Dharma is only to prevent faults and accomplish virtues, especially the object to be accomplished on the Mahayana path, even relying on wisdom seems difficult. If someone like me thinks that they cannot accomplish this matter, and the mind is suppressed by the adverse conditions of laziness and despising oneself, if even such ignorant and weak inferior beings can generate the power of diligence, they can obtain the teachings of becoming a Buddha. I have obtained such a supreme heavenly body, what difficulty is there in accomplishing great things? One should elevate one's aspirations in this way. As stated in the "Good Arm Inquiry Sutra" and the "Flower Ornament Sutra, Entering the Dharma Realm Chapter": "How can I attain Bodhi?" Do not become lazy. The Tathagata speaks truthfully, speaking this truth. Bees, flesh flies, wasps, and any beings that become insects, if they can also generate the power of diligence, they can obtain the unsurpassed Bodhi that is difficult to obtain. Since I am born as a human being, able to distinguish benefit and harm, if I do not abandon the conduct of Bodhi, why can I not attain Bodhi? It is like that. And as stated in the "Ratnavali": "Therefore, it is said that becoming a Buddha takes a long time."
