Therefore. Because it is non-discriminating like the sky, it is not that there is no attainment of wisdom. As it is said in the Ten Wheels of the Essence of the Earth, "All actions are completely pacified, all thoughts are completely abandoned, the mind is equal like the sky, and everything is entrusted to this patience." And as it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara, "Knowing this, like an illusion, one will not be angry at all things." And, "What is there to gain or lose in these empty things?" This is the patience of practicing the Dharma based on the ultimate truth. In the stage of practice with faith, it is following the sound, in the seventh stage it is in accordance, and in the eighth stage and so on, it is patience with the unborn Dharma. As explained in the commentary on the Bodhisattvacharyavatara. Also, why is it that if the three austerities of patience are weakened, then the other five perfections, such as generosity, are like a small path surrounded by enemies on the outside, difficult to reach the desired place, and generate the power of wisdom. Among the three austerities of patience, the first aspect is that if the heat of patience in accepting white Dharma disappears and the mind becomes discouraged, it will become a great obstacle on the path. Because these individuals are completely dependent on the freedom of karma, the cause of happiness is small, and the cause of suffering is great, as it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara, "The cause of happiness is rare, and the cause of suffering is extremely numerous." This also depends on one's previous karma, or depends on other causes. If one enters into virtuous actions, one will experience various difficulties caused by the worries or activities arising from it. At that time, one must have the ability to bring it into the path through the power of diligence, with little patience for the perception of suffering or for the aspects of joy. As it is said in the Avatamsaka Sutra, "Daughter, in order to destroy all your afflictions, you should generate an unbearable mind." If one enters the Mahayana path but becomes narrow-minded and lacks steadfast perseverance, then even small difficulties will become a cause for turning away from the path, while those with great perseverance will be liberated from cowardly behavior, and great suffering and austerity will become companions on the path.
