Examine the delusions of ordinary beings. There are six examinations, according to the Compendium: A Bodhisattva who diligently practices the precepts for the benefit of sentient beings should separately examine the six places of discrimination, namely: self and others, and being impoverished of resources and being rich in resources, being impoverished of Dharma and being rich in Dharma, these are the six places. Among them, being impoverished of resources means not obtaining robes and alms, not obtaining them, and the continuity of those who obtain and use them being cut off. Being rich in resources should be understood as the opposite of that. Being impoverished of Dharma means the decline of learning, and the words of the profound Dharma spoken by the Tathagata, which one has not heard before, and has no opportunity to hear; what one has not heard before, just as one has not thought about it before, has no opportunity to think about it; obstacles to hearing and obstacles to thinking, and forgetting hearing and thinking; not obtaining the merit arising from meditation, being unable to obtain it, and what has been obtained completely declining. Being rich in Dharma should be understood as the opposite of that. That is to say, self and others are the basis of being rich and declining in Dharma and resources, so the other four are also included in them. Having examined the six places in this way, the way to enter and withdraw can also be understood by quoting the meaning of the Compendium. If one's own place of learning has not declined, and one can accomplish great benefits for others, then one should mainly do things that benefit others. In the stage of ordinary people, the situation is exactly the opposite, so in order to accomplish the benefit of sentient beings in the future, one should examine one's own delusional thoughts with the eye of wisdom, and the faults arising from them, and one should also mainly protect the aspects that decline and follow decline, and from the aspect of the means of great compassion, one should also incidentally accomplish the benefit of others. If it is possible to accomplish great benefits for others, then, for minor precepts, it is permissible to allow flexibility when it is permissible. For example, for the sake of the city, one can abandon the village; for the sake of oneself, one can abandon the land; for the sake of the Dharma, one can even abandon oneself. Therefore, the Bodhisattva's precepts, the mind of the Yogacara, are the means of great compassion, and because they are mastered by the nature of wisdom that is the opposite of the mind that clings to reality, and the part that corresponds to afflictions, it is for the benefit of sentient beings.

In order to accomplish great deeds, therefore, even if it obstructs the subtle precepts of the lower body and speech, one should accept the mind of enlightenment, the supreme intention, skillful means, wisdom, samadhi, liberation, and the source of holy qualities, which is the discipline of a virtuous mind. Because the heart is full of love and compassion, there is no fault in a virtuous mind. As mentioned above. Moreover, it is not that one abandons a great cause for the sake of a small result, but rather that one abandons a small cause in order to accomplish a great cause, and ultimately protects the sacred Dharma to be accomplished, which must be without any deficiency. As it is said in the Jataka: For the sake of the family, one abandons one person; for the sake of life, one abandons the family. For the sake of the country, one abandons the city; for one's own sake, one abandons the land. For the sake of the Dharma, one even abandons oneself. In general, a Bodhisattva, merely by taking vows, must train in accumulating virtuous Dharma and benefiting sentient beings. However, until one possesses clairvoyance, it is difficult to effectively benefit others, therefore, one should mainly learn practices that are in accordance with one's own level, starting from generating the mind of enlightenment and taking a chosen deity. For a beginner, the discipline of vows is the main thing, therefore it is the practice of a chosen deity. For one who practices with faith, the discipline of accumulating virtuous Dharma is the main thing, therefore it is the practice of samadhi. For one who has entered the bhumi, benefiting sentient beings itself is the main thing, therefore it is the practice of pleasing sentient beings. Thus it is said. Therefore, for a beginner, there is no fault in not possessing the discipline of benefiting sentient beings, because the continuum that possesses the vows of entering the path and has not violated them, even in a state of mental wandering and sleep, has the nature of continuous merit, which is discipline. In summary, relying on these three disciplines, one can accomplish the three trainings of direct perception, and attain the complete fruition of abandonment and realization, and achieve Buddhahood. In this way, with the discipline of individual liberation, one perfects abandonment, abandoning the two obscurations together with their habitual tendencies. With the discipline of accumulating virtuous Dharma, one obtains the perfection of realization, the knowledge of suchness and the knowledge of all phenomena. With the discipline of benefiting sentient beings, one perfects activity.
