Yes. As it is said, a person who has reached the ultimate teaching is a field of merit, therefore he does not dwell on the path of permission and prohibition. A learner (referring to a noble one) is able to practice those merits, therefore he is allowed to enjoy the offerings given by others. Even an ordinary person, if his precepts are pure and he is diligent in reading and reciting, there is no fault because the Buddha has permitted it. If only the precepts are pure, but his continuum is destroyed by laziness, and he does not possess the qualities of hearing, thinking, and meditating, then it is like the debt of a poor person, which must eventually be repaid. A person who breaks the precepts is always forbidden to enjoy wealth, and if he enjoys it, he will experience the suffering of the lower realms. In the Sutra of the Buddha Treasury it says: Shariputra, a monk who has broken his precepts must cut off his own flesh to repay the benefactor for hundreds of thousands of trillions of kalpas. Even if he is reborn as a livestock, he will have to carry heavy burdens. If even a part of a hair divided into a million parts cannot be digested, what need is there to mention clothes, food, bedding, and medicine? It also says: Shariputra, in a land full of pus and blood, I cannot tolerate those who act according to my rituals living together with monks who have broken their precepts. Why is that? Because whatever is taken by the hand of a monk who has broken his precepts will become poison to a monk who upholds the precepts. As the holy Sakya said: One who does not study enjoys like a master, while one who studies enjoys the offerings. One who possesses meditation and reading, enjoys by permission, and there is no fault. The rest, destroyed by laziness, themselves enjoy as if in debt. For those who break the precepts, the necessities of temples and so on are always forbidden. The rest, such as the universal basis of karma, can be understood elsewhere. In short, the cause of the precepts of guarding the senses is only guarding the senses, and its obstacle is an unwholesome friend, as stated in the sutras. For example, lacking faith, having no shame, having no embarrassment, being lazy, having corrupt wisdom, not striving to guard the doors of the senses, not respecting and not loving elderly monks, and not paying attention in the proper way.

and speaking harsh words, lacking patience, especially liking activities, speech, and gatherings, associating with householders, repeatedly looking at women, being angry and holding grudges, etc., these afflictions also become obstacles to discipline. So it is said. Therefore, with completely pure discipline, as the main branch of perfect Samadhi, one should truly take up the merit of practice. There are twelve aspects to that: living in a solitary place, wearing rag robes, begging for alms, eating one meal, constantly sitting, not eating later, wearing three robes, begging in order, dwelling as it is, dwelling in a charnel ground, dwelling under a tree, and dwelling without obstruction. Among these, living in a solitary place is a place that is in accordance with one's vows, as it is said in "Showing the Excellent Path": Even if one falls asleep in a solitary place, by dwelling in solitude, one pleases the Sugata. Even if one dwells very evenly in a village, one will not be able to protect Samadhi there in comfort. So it is said. Wearing rag robes is easy to obtain because worldly people will reproach it, and one is content and has few desires, is freed from craving, and one's actions, such as associating with householders for the sake of robes, will not cause one to degenerate from the Dharma. Begging for alms is that one possesses the conduct of asceticism of wandering for alms, so one abandons the faults of wrong livelihood and pride, and one possesses the merit of enduring contempt. Eating one meal is not eating again and again. If one has already eaten, even if one has not left the seat, one does not take the water for washing the bowl and eat again, or after obtaining food separately, after eating coarse food, one does not eat again, that is the limit of food. So it is said. Constantly sitting is not sitting with one's body lowered on a bed, but it means sitting in the lotus position with one's body upright. As it was said earlier: Because one has the conduct of abandoning lowering one's body and sitting, with the vow going before, therefore one is constantly sitting. So it is said. Not eating later is as it says in that very text: One has abandoned eating afterwards. By one who has taken the vow, there is no greed or attachment, one is content and has few desires, and one is in accordance with the conduct of joy. So it is said.
