Holding any item from felt to a needle, sit in front of the elders and ask, 'Bhikkhus, is it permissible to perform the dissolution of the retreat for the Sangha with such an item?' Those present reply, 'It is perfectly permissible, very permissible.' Thus, the occasion is distinguished. Then, the appointed person gathers the gains of the retreat and places them to one side. The novices are made to perform the dissolution as before, and they are made to understand. Then, their gains are gathered and distributed together with the previous ones. Non-timely dissolution is when, due to a Dharma-related task or a cause of resolving disputes, it is necessary to leave during the retreat, or if after vowing to observe the retreat, more than two Uposathas are missed, then dissolution is permissible on any new moon or full moon after half a month has passed. If it is not possible to stay due to war or other reasons, then those who are allowed to leave after understanding the dissolution by the Sangha to each other are special cases of time. Special cases of individuals are that if there are no more than four monks, there is no need to appoint a dissolver, and the request and the actual dissolution are performed directly. If there are only three or two, the dissolution is blessed. If one is alone, then only the main text is recited three times. Furthermore, having obtained permission to be blessed for seven days or so, and having gone outside the boundary, if one encounters a dissolution in another monastery, then it is permissible to perform the dissolution together with them, and there is no fault. If one arrives suddenly on that day, or if there is another renunciate who has left the retreat, it is also necessary to perform the dissolution. Having performed the dissolution in this way, on the sixteenth day of the following day, in order to avoid excessive attachment to the place, one should abandon noisy talk and improper attention, and through Dharma-related talk, or through the silence of the noble ones, with proper attention, one should travel at least within a yojana. If there are fears in all directions, or if there are faults such as resentment, it is said that there is no downfall even if one does not go. Harming others is not a virtuous practice, so if traveling causes damage to crops and fruit trees, or if there is a fault of making householders disgusted, then there is not much loss for the traveler.

This is because the necessary condition for a wandering monk is to abandon attachment to dwelling places. Therefore, when a wandering monk or others suddenly need to leave, or if they are leaving tomorrow, they should request permission from the lama from now on and obtain it. It is not permissible to leave without proper procedure. In the place where they stay, they should recite the three sutras in the morning and evening, and also prepare other conditions for comfortable living, such as clothes, leather, and lodging, etc., which should be understood in detail elsewhere. Here, combined with the ground base, only the nature of it is briefly mentioned. When the Buddha was staying in Shravasti, the monks who were observing the summer retreat in various places came to pay homage. Because the Sangha was very tired, the Buddha allowed a lenient rule, that is, a ground base could be laid when sewing the robes. This is actually a grass mat for laying the foundation when sewing robes. A monk who lays the ground base can obtain ten benefits: holding, fruit, and placing three things; repeatedly; gathering; leaving without permission. The five faults of asking for clothes are avoided, and the monks belonging to the ground base, wherever they live, can jointly obtain wealth; they can use clothes that have not been allowed; they can use clothes without patches. The rules, time, object, thing, and ritual of the ground base are not detailed here. Regarding the ground base of clothing: The Buddha allowed the Shravakas to cut the cloth obtained during the summer retreat, dye it in a bad color, and hold it. A person with form saw the practitioner and mistook him for a Shravaka, so he requested to sew a mark, and the Buddha allowed the cut and sewn clothes. This is related to the thirteen living utensils: patch, upper garment, lower skirt, monastic skirt, dust cloth, actual dust cloth, cloth for dust cloth, face cloth, pus cloth, amulet, razor, ground base, and large summer cloth. These materials should also be seven available materials that are neither too bad nor too good: wool, linen, mixed cloth, coarse cotton, Kautamba, Dugula. The so-called "there are seven kinds of robe materials" does not refer to very smooth and rainy materials. These materials also cannot be dyed with eight unsuitable pigments: madder, cochineal, dye and alkali; medicinal wood dye, indigo and cinnabar; orpiment, etc.
