Or abandoning based on other causes and conditions. The third and fourth are easy to understand. The fifth is: Like the secret words of the naked ones: "Who sharpened the thorns? Who drew the peacock's patterns? Everything arose without cause." Thus, viewing it as without cause, denying the fruition, and the wrong view arising merely from the mind, cutting off the roots of virtue, and entering the path of the ten non-virtuous actions. The five certainties of a minister are from the same source: Furthermore, the roots of a minister's downfall are five. What are the five? If a minister steals the property of a stupa, or the property of the Sangha, or the property of the Sangha of the four directions, this is the first root of downfall. Also, destroying villages, destroying regions, destroying cities, destroying territories, this is the second root of downfall. Also, if a minister abandons the Dharma, proclaiming the liberation of the Hearers, or proclaiming the liberation of the Solitary Buddhas, or abandoning, preventing, and obscuring the liberation of the wisdom of omniscience, this is the third root of downfall. Also, if a minister harms those who have renounced for the sake of the Blessed One, whether they possess discipline or not, taking away their monastic robes, or causing them to return to lay life, or imprisoning them, or confiscating their wealth through punishment, or causing them to lose their lives, this is the fourth root of downfall. Also, if a minister commits any of the five heinous crimes, etc., this is the fifth root of downfall. Also, if a minister commits any of these five roots of downfall, then all the previously accumulated roots of virtue of that minister will be destroyed. A village is a place with only one household, a region is a place where four castes reside, a city is a place with eighteen kinds of artisans, a town is a place where many markets gather, and a territory is the destruction of large places like Campaka. The eight certainties for ordinary people are: those who have not studied, or even those who have studied are not necessarily certain, because there are those who misunderstand the true meaning of emptiness as literal and develop fear, for these people, do not explain it literally, but for those who possess the Mahayana lineage, when entering this path, they should hear.

Regarding the precepts of the Pratimoksha, praising tangible objects, thereby causing people to develop a desire for the Hinayana scriptures; for those with the Sravaka lineage, who have already developed faith and understanding in their own Pratimoksha precepts and are studying for this goal, but in reality will not change because of it, yet proclaiming the merits of the Mahayana, thereby causing people to become neither; from the perspective of the initial motivation of the first practitioner, for those who have not been prophesied by the Mahayana, like a helmsman turning the rudder of a ship, transforming their minds, praising the Mahayana, thereby causing people to abandon the path of Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas; in order to obtain fame and offerings, praising oneself, and out of jealousy, slandering others; hoping that others will see oneself as a virtuous and accomplished spiritual friend, even though one has not realized the profound depths, yet deceiving others with the great lie of being a superior human being; befriending powerful figures such as kings, thereby robbing and beating other monks; robbing the patrons of the Three Jewels, and enjoying wealth without any regard; reducing and robbing the possessions of those who practice renunciation and meditation, giving them to reciters or readers, thereby causing yogis who practice according to the Dharma to abandon practice, these are eight in total. As stated in the Compendium of Trainings: 'For beings whose minds have not been tamed, proclaiming emptiness, and those who have entered the path of Buddhahood, causing them to regress from perfect Bodhi, completely abandoning the Pratimoksha precepts, and practicing the Mahayana, clinging to desires and so on with the learning vehicle, thinking that they will not abandon because of this.' 'Also causing others to cling, proclaiming one's own merits, for the sake of fame and respect, using words and arguments to slander others, saying that oneself has profound patience, speaking false words, cutting off the Sangha by means of cutting off renunciates, robbing the patrons of the Three Jewels, and accepting offerings, causing people to abandon tranquility, and the enjoyments of abiding correctly, giving offerings to reciters.' 'These are all root downfalls, the cause of beings falling into the great hells.' Although these have eighteen names, in reality there are only fourteen, because the king's fifth root downfall and the minister's second root downfall are different, the other four are not contradictory in substance. Thus, these eighteen names of
