I, wrong views and, arrogance and, unreal discriminations and, non-contamination and, complete possession are pure ethics. The opposite of that is impure. There are two kinds of purity, therefore there are two aspects: whichever is purified without transgression, that is the pure ethics without falling. Whichever is purified by correcting again after falling, that is the pure ethics of recovery. And so on, there are extensive distinctions. Therefore, the corrected ethics arise from the combination of body and speech, and the unestablished ethics are transformed from the place known by the mind, and if one does not comprehend all that becomes the antidote to holding ethics and asceticism as supreme, then ethics will not become pure. Why is that? It is ridiculous to pretend to protect what one does not know should be protected. Just knowing the transgressions makes confession easy. The first of the four doors through which transgressions arise is also, not knowing, which is acknowledged by the unimpeded holders of the doctrine. The three basic rituals of the practice and, the seventeen precepts are the ethics of entering. Among them, the actions of body and speech that are permitted by the Tathagata are the ethics of entering, and not doing what is forbidden is the ethics of returning, therefore, for such knowledge of entering and returning, there is no way to not know the precepts of the Vinaya, and even if there is one who does not protect properly, the natural faults will become a companion for generating the mind of discipline, because, as the master Asanga acknowledged, the first cause of violating the root vows is also not knowing, and the same applies to natural faults. Therefore, the cause of abandoning vows and, re-correction should also be explained in passing. Among them, in general, there are four causes for abandoning the precepts: in front of someone who can understand, abandoning the precepts from the depths of one's heart, or even if one does not abandon them, but a thought arises that contradicts the proper acceptance, it is difficult to practice celibacy, and declaring the cause of abandonment will also abandon them, as it is said in the sutra: "Without abandoning the precepts, without destroying the precepts." That's what it says. Similarly, losing the basis, that is, the cessation of the colored faculties of cognition, and dying and transmigrating will also abandon them, and the basis is damaged, that is, the two roots are missing.

Or it happens suddenly, or it is abandoned by changing three times, or it is abandoned because of the arising of a rootless view, that is, the false view of seeing cause and effect as non-existent. The latter is because the root of virtue is cut off, and because there is no basis for the precepts, it is said to be the cause of destruction of all the Great and Small Vehicles, therefore it is very serious. On top of the four, adding the reason for abandoning after the night of fasting has passed is the view of the Treasury. As it says: Giving up learning, death, the arising of two roots, cutting off the root, and the passing of the night. Specifically, for those who are not yet twenty years old, if they think they are twenty years old and take the full ordination, if they know that this is the case, it is permissible to make up for it by abortion, but if it is not complete even if it is made up, then their precepts will be broken. As the Sutra says: If you know, it will be broken. If he is born before he is twenty years old, including the months in the womb and of abortion. Also, if a Bhikshuni's precepts promise to follow desires, they will be abandoned. As it is said: When promising others for the sake of following, the learning itself will be confused. In terms of each school, the Red Robe school abandons because the Dharma of the Vinaya has disappeared, because there is no proper establishment of the boundaries of the learning. The Sutra school believes that abandoning occurs when a root downfall occurs and is concealed, because the continuum is defiled by great shamelessness and impudence. The Kashmira Vaibhashikas believe that even if a root downfall occurs and is concealed, the precepts will not be abandoned, because it is unreasonable to abandon the complete precepts simply because one aspect is broken. This situation is both having precepts and being immoral, just as some people have both property and debt. Their view is: The Kashmiris believe that for what has happened, it is like property and debt, both are present. Because the basis, intention, action, ultimate result, and collection of causes of all downfalls are different. When the precepts first arise, from one to seven precept bodies actually arise, and the same number of four great elements arise, acting as the proximate cause. The harmonious auxiliary conditions are the acting causes of the Khenpo, Acharya, etc., and in the manner of co-occurring causes of the same category, the seven abandonments of the Sugata arise as perceptible forms of consciousness, just as a dragon has seven heads.
