This thought increases attachment to samsara and leads to becoming fat and arrogant, therefore it is prohibited. Rosaries etc. refer to showing off, applying perfumes, wearing ornaments and colors. Therefore, it refers to jewels or rosaries adorned with jewels, anointing the body with fragrance, and adorning the body with what is known as beautiful ornaments in the world, such as sewing tassels on Han-style hats, and relying on containers filled with food, etc., all of these. Colors refer to beautiful and gorgeous clothes that are beautiful in different places, times, and circumstances. High beds refer to thrones or beds made of jewels, or beds adorned with jewels, and sitting on beds higher than one cubit in length. These also include those offered by others wishing for merit, and not being in a situation of teaching the Dharma, as stated in the "Three Hundred Verses." Afternoon food is food at the wrong time. The time for eating is from dawn until noon. Dawn appears when half of the seventh part of the night, divided into nine parts, has passed. Even during that time, the Teacher allowed it in order to strengthen the body for the practice of liberation, and to nourish microorganisms. Also, time refers to when it is beneficial to oneself, and not when suffering from illness or famine. What is in accordance with the conditions is that even if it is more than half a portion, it is not cut off by water at the beginning and end; even if it is medicine, it refers to medicine that can be taken in doses, such as medicinal yogurt, etc., drunk inconspicuously in the afternoon; and medicinal ghee and brown sugar, etc., that have been stored for seven days, eaten without being soaked in water and without being blessed; and medicinal tea, etc., carried for sustenance, not soaked in water, or drunk without rinsing one's mouth with water first. Furthermore, eating stale food, eating unclean food, and eating meat that does not meet the three standards of purity, and storing food, etc., should be prohibited. The reason for the prohibition is that these increase the body's obesity and lead to engaging in inappropriate behavior. Receiving gold and silver refers to recognizing and receiving gold, silver, and other jewels that have characteristics without blessing them. The basis, intention, and ultimate action are the same as before. The reason for the prohibition is that since it increases attachment to valuable objects, inferior copper, iron, and coarse cloth, etc., should also be prohibited. Thus, it is summarized into ten aspects.

Like the son of Uṣaka, he became discouraged by hearing many precepts. Although he spoke of them in ten rough categories in order to avoid abandoning the vows, if divided in detail, there are thirty-three. As it is said: Four root [vows], three killings, unfounded, defaming as five, knowingly scolding the teacher, mocking, little food, leftover offerings, storing great fruit, covering up wine, three dances, three garlands, a large high bed, untimely jewels, three intermediaries, thus there are thirty-three. On top of the four root vows, adding to the category of killing similar to defeat, killing animals, planting roots and water with living beings, using water with living beings, these three types of killing; belonging to falsehood, unfounded, slight defeatist slander, the division of the sangha and its aftermath, denigrating householders, knowingly speaking falsely, scolding the teacher to his face, scolding behind his back, slandering that one practices Dharma for a little food, the remaining slander, abandoning the precepts with contempt, covering up great fruit in order to gain more, these twelve added together make nineteen. On top of that, adding what causes intoxication, three dances, three garlands, counting expensive and tall beds separately, and afternoon food, receiving gold and silver, there are thirty. Including the three lapses mentioned below, there are thirty-three similar [offenses]. These similar cases are thirteen faultless cases for a śrāmaṇera. If these are prohibited, it will hinder the śrāmaṇera from entering the Dharma, and the service of the bhikṣu will not be accomplished, and these are inherently sinful. Therefore, the *Vibhajyavāda-kośa* says: Holding and separating, likewise digging the earth, touching jewels and fire, eating after abandoning, planting trees and cutting down trees, eating without being given, discarding unclean grass roots, likewise storing and eating, destroying seeds and the basis of learning, these ten are not included, one should know that this is what is taught in the Prātimokṣa, and the similar cases that have been taken up. Therefore, apart from the thirteen faultless cases where holding is divided into two, most of the abandoning and accepting taught in the Vinaya-mūla and the *Vinaya-vibhaṅga* are
