Following, this precept, regarding the downfall arising from desire, I do not say it is a downfall. In accordance with this, in order to ascertain the absence of the nature of desire, it is extensively explained in the sutra itself, and it does not show the mind of renunciation like the Pratimoksha. Generally, the explanation of the term Pratimoksha is that, because of Pratimoksha, the name of the result is established on the cause as Pratimoksha. As it is said in the Sutra of Excellent Guidance, this path is the path to go to Pratimoksha, so it is Pratimoksha. For example, the road to the city is called the road to the city. Or, because one is individually liberated from sins, it is called individual liberation or precepts, because one learns it, it is the cause of purification and liberation, or it is a vow not to abandon special devotion to perfect merit. Or, because it protects and liberates, it is called protective liberation, because it protects from misconduct, all defilements, and the lower realms. Furthermore, because it is an ordinary being, it has the nature of downfall, therefore it is a downfall. Bound by karma and defilements, wandering in the non-intelligent lower realms, protecting and liberating from that suffering, therefore it is protecting from downfall, it is a vow of liberation from suffering. This is establishing the result on the cause, like "the entrance is a river of happiness." Therefore, without accomplishing the benefit of others, oneself is bound by the cause of karma and defilements, wandering in samsara, fearing wandering in the lower realms, the meaning of protecting from downfall and liberating from it is the same, there is no other necessity. A Bodhisattva solely aims at benefiting others, so the name Pratimoksha is not established for him. However, a Bodhisattva has a continuum of precepts, bound by the precepts of Pratimoksha, it can be understood as merely establishing it as the Pratimoksha of a Bodhisattva. As it is said in the Tenth Wheel Sutra of Earth Essence, the pure morality of a Bodhisattva is of two types, common and uncommon. The common one is the Upasaka vow, or the Pratimoksha vow of ordination, the full ordination. The uncommon

It does not refer to guarding the precepts with a mind of equanimity towards all sentient beings, a mind of harmlessness, and a mind free from resentment. Rather, it refers to guarding without looking at the maturation of all that is born. As it is said, it is clear. Furthermore, there are cases where Bodhisattvas, while living in a household and not having performed the signs and rituals of individual liberation, still abide in the discipline of renunciation, as stated in the "Fierce Interrogation Sutra": "A Bodhisattva who is a householder should be skilled in understanding the faults of living in a household. The term 'household' refers to that which destroys all roots of virtue, refutes arising, and overthrows the tree of virtue; therefore, it is called 'household.' The term 'living in a household' refers to the place of all afflictions, the place where manifest perceptions arise regarding the roots of non-virtue, the place where children and ordinary people conceal defilements, the place where non-virtuous deeds are practiced, and the place where evil people gather; therefore, it is called 'living in a household.'" It also says, "The term 'household' refers to the gathering place of paths of killing, binding, beating, threatening, abusing, unpleasant words, scolding, speaking ill, and acting ill," and so on, with endless faults. Similarly, a Bodhisattva who is a householder should generate three perceptions towards his own wife. What are the three? To perceive her as a flesh-eating woman, to perceive her as a Rakshasa woman, and to perceive her as having an ugly appearance. It also says: "Mixing together from beginning to end, to perceive her as difficult to satisfy, to perceive her as bottomless, and to perceive her as ungrateful. To perceive her as a large sow, to perceive her as a female crocodile, and to perceive her as a large female cat." And so on, regarding the sixty-five faults of women. Similarly, living in a household is the staircase to the lower realms, while renunciation is the staircase to higher realms. Living in a household is bondage, while renunciation is liberation. Living in a household is accompanied by fear, while renunciation is without fear. And so on, with extensive teachings, therefore, many householders who were greedy for pleasure, greedy for fame, and so on, requested to renounce. Having requested in this way, the Bhagavan for Bodhi

The Bodhisattva Maitreya and, the two noble beings whose conduct is completely pure, please ordain these householders and grant them full ordination. After this command, the Bodhisattva Maitreya ordained nine thousand householders. The Bodhisattva whose conduct is completely pure ordained seven thousand householders. After speaking, the householder Dragsul Can-ga rejoiced at the joyful event, and after extreme joy, satisfaction and happiness arose, and he offered clothes made of hundreds of thousands of liwa cloths to the body of the Bhagavan, and said this: "Bhagavan, with what kind of dharma does a Bodhisattva householder, living at home, learn the precepts of ordination?" After this request, "Householder, a Bodhisattva householder, living at home, possesses five dharmas, and then he learns the precepts of ordination. What are the five? Householder, a Bodhisattva householder, living at home, completely gives away all things without regard, and possesses the mind of omniscience, without expecting a mature result. Householder, furthermore, a Bodhisattva householder, living at home, practices celibacy and is pure, and does not engage in desire even in the ninth position of the mind, let alone entering the non-limbs that join the two organs?" After explaining this, he meditates on the four dhyanas, strives to make all sentient beings happy, and necessarily exerts diligence through the Perfection of Wisdom, completely upholds the true Dharma, and also causes others to practice the true Dharma. Householder, a Bodhisattva householder, living at home, possesses these five dharmas, and then he learns the precepts of ordination." Thus, the Bodhisattva showed the five places of the ordination precepts for householders, and because the time is also shown in the *Ratnakuta Sutra, Udayi's Question*, the nature of the ritual is easy to understand. However, the ordination of a Bodhisattva is with the mind of all-aspects-knowing, and even if he lives at home, he strives to make sentient beings happy, so he does not ask from the aspect of the words and meanings of the Pratimoksha vows, especially the vows of the Bodhisattva's own ground.
