The permission from the Mahayana should be understood as considering the levels of intelligence and abilities of sentient beings, both pure and impure. As praised in the scriptures: "In permission and prohibition, your teachings are sometimes definite, sometimes indefinite, yet there is no contradiction between them." In this way, one should understand the definitive and provisional, the hidden and the intended meanings. Such permission, like a lotus unsoiled by mud, if it is intended for bodhisattvas who dwell on the earth and possess the essence of emptiness and compassion, one should not be mistaken by the mere words out of fear of the asceticism of vows. As stated in the Mother Sutra: "Great bodhisattvas who wish to practice the profound Prajnaparamita, some, in order to fully ripen sentient beings, may also show the complete enjoyment of the five desirable qualities, but in reality, they are not defiled by them." Therefore, if that is the case, for the bodhisattva vows, whatever seeks one's own peace and happiness, abandons difficult practices, and does not accomplish benefits for others, is said to be a cause of downfall. Regarding any situation of permission and prohibition, one should measure according to one's own intelligence and experience. If one acts rashly without examining the rationality of acceptance and rejection, or if one sees a situation that should be prohibited but accepts it out of greed for comfort, or if one sees a situation that should be accepted but abandons it out of fear of the difficult practices of the lower levels, thereby engaging in the practices of the higher levels carelessly, or if one adopts a neutral attitude towards both advancing and retreating, all of these are causes of downfall. Thus, if we combine the four categories of downfall, shadow of downfall, non-downfall, and shadow of non-downfall with the three trainings in ethics, then in the Pratimoksha vows, killing out of hatred is a downfall, killing with altruistic intention is a shadow of downfall, not killing out of compassion is not a downfall, and not killing even when benefiting others is a shadow of non-downfall. In the training of accumulating virtuous dharmas, not giving out of stinginess is a downfall, not giving with altruistic intention is a shadow of downfall, giving with pure intention is not a downfall, and giving in order to harm others is a shadow of non-downfall. In the training of benefiting sentient beings, not caring for the sick is a downfall, and deviating from this in order to accomplish a great purpose is a downfall.

The image of. Caring for the sick with love is without transgression. Even with attendants, abandoning one's great virtuous deeds to care for the sick is an image without transgression. Therefore, in all circumstances, one should understand all actions of body, speech, and mind in this way. For example, in relation to virtuous deeds, digging the ground and cutting trees are meaningless offenses. If it is for the sake of virtuous deeds, there is no transgression. Meaninglessly, absentmindedly drawing on the ground is similar. Actions should be controlled with mindfulness and awareness, and what should be learned should be learned. Remembering what has been learned, correcting mistakes, and restoring vows, thereby understanding the five characteristics. Therefore, the Bodhisattva's precepts also depend on abandoning desires, so first one must purify the way of guarding the precepts. For the initial practitioner Bodhisattvas, wisdom is the most important practice, progressing from higher to higher. If one does not initially purify the precepts of guarding, and mainly focuses on the other two, there will be many obstacles. The ordained Bodhisattva is considered special in the Ornament of the Sutras. For ordinary people, recognizing the afflictions of desire as faults and sins, they renounce the household and abandon the four types of agriculture. Separating from external objects of desire, becoming a monk's support, thereby purifying the precepts of guarding. Why? Because for the initial practitioner, accumulating virtuous Dharma and benefiting sentient beings are difficult to become powerful as the literal meaning, so one must rely on remedies from subtle places, because this is the time to protect one's own afflictions. In the "Mañjuśrī's Pure Land Adornment Sutra" it also says: Shariputra, for the Bodhisattva who is very happy to be ordained, he will fully hold ten qualities. Which ten? That is, not being attached to desires, delighting in solitary places, obtaining the realm of the Buddha's conduct, being separated from the attachment to wives and children, abandoning the paths of evil, relying on the Dharma of the paths of happiness, not completely losing the previous roots of virtue, obtaining perfect roots of virtue, the gods are very happy about this, and non-humans will protect him.
