And, stinginess is helpful in overcoming the fault of not giving away wealth and possessions. As stated in the Compendium of Perfections: "Even if a beggar appears before you, but you are too weak to give, then before the beggar becomes discouraged and leaves, soften his heart with gentle words. In the future, when a beggar comes before you, in order not to let him become discouraged and disappointed, you should eliminate the faults of stinginess, and strive to completely eliminate greed." Therefore, stinginess and greed are obstacles to generosity. Thinking: I have not been accustomed to giving in the past, so I am still stingy now. As a result, in the next life, I will not like giving, and I will become poor, which is inevitable. Therefore, do not let it dominate you in any way. If you have little yourself, this is also because you did not benefit others in previous lives. Therefore, even if you die of poverty in this life, it is easy, and the only cause for gaining wealth in the next life is giving. Therefore, do not let the beggar return disappointed. If attachment arises because of clinging to the object of giving, thinking: This object has not grasped me in any way, but I cling to it with a reversed view, and I am reluctant to part with it, which is the cause of suffering. Therefore, cut off the mind of attachment. If you do not see the benefit of giving as the cause of generating enlightenment, but only see the benefit of gaining enjoyment, then, alas! All conditioned phenomena are impermanent and separate. If the result of giving once is like a merchant gaining profit, although it is not merit, it is like experiencing happiness in a dream. Therefore, dedicate the result of giving to the cause of supreme enlightenment. In general, until the first ground is attained, enjoyment will not be exhausted, but it does not exist in all circumstances. Therefore, a wise Bodhisattva, with an extremely pure intention, even mentally transforms vast objects of giving, and generates the intention to give them to all sentient beings. As stated in the Fifty Verses on the Guru: Thus, Bodhisattvas do not have those enjoyments until they have attained pure intention. Although they do not have enjoyments, wise people still practice giving. How does a Bodhisattva, with pure superior intention, attain the result of completely liberating from the lower realms? Just like that, life after life.

One will obtain inexhaustible enjoyment in all times and places. Thus it is said. Therefore, regarding the methods of learning the supreme generosity, one should temporarily visualize it as the desired object, and for the body and all enjoyments, generate a vast aspiration of generosity, and connect it with the mind of enlightenment, which is the root and supreme of all generosity, as stated in the Compendium of Perfections: The root of such generosity is the mind of enlightenment. Such generosity is the desire to give but not giving. In the world, those who always have the desire to give, among generosity, the Victorious Ones have said is supreme. Thus it is said. Second, the perfection of discipline. The nature of discipline is the vows that do not contradict. There are three types: the vow of abstaining from evil deeds, the vow of gathering virtuous dharmas, and the vow of benefiting sentient beings. Guarding the three doors from unwholesome deeds is the vow of abstaining from evil deeds. Possessing the six perfections is the vow of gathering virtuous dharmas. Benefiting others is the vow of benefiting sentient beings. Among these, regarding the aspects of the three doors that should be abandoned, one should properly guard against the opposing factors, and generate and stabilize the mind of abandoning everything, including the root of harming others, which is the nature of discipline. There are three types: the vow of abstaining from evil deeds, the vow of gathering virtuous dharmas, and the vow of benefiting sentient beings. Among these, the first is from the perspective of possessing intention, abandoning the ten unwholesome deeds; from the perspective of its own nature, abandoning the seven types of actions of body and speech. In the commentary on the Entering [the Bodhisattva's Way of Life], it says: Because one does not accept afflictions, because one does not generate sins, because one keeps the mind with a peaceful and cool mind, or because it is the cause of happiness, therefore it is what the noble ones should rely on, so it is discipline. It is also characterized by abandoning the seven types of actions. Not being attached to the three Dharma robes, not having hatred, and having right view, these are the basis for initiating everything. Therefore, from the perspective of discipline that possesses the basis for initiating everything, the ten paths of action are explained in detail. Thus it is said. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva Bhumi Sutra explains the seven types of individual liberation vows, therefore, if a Bodhisattva who holds the individual liberation vows abides in the Bodhisattva vows, then whether one is a householder or a renunciate, for the actual vows of individual liberation and the common abandonment of them,
