This is to prevent people from not considering the faults of attachment that arise after giving alms with material possessions. Otherwise, it is not that because of the merit of previous giving, the benefits of giving are prohibited and giving is not allowed for wealth that is naturally obtained. For example, the Holy Nagarjuna once provided the necessities of life for many monks, and the teacher Hero also obtained a large amount of food every day due to the power of past merit, thereby benefiting all the monks. For bodhisattvas with great wisdom among lay practitioners, there is also no prohibition of Dharma giving. In the house of the Licchavi family, known as Immaculate, there are eight wonderful things, as well as the six perfections, and extensive and profound discussions about the irreversible wheel of Dharma. Therefore, all the perfections of giving should possess six kinds of excellence, as stated in the "Compendium of Perfections," the meaning of which is: Relying on the generation of bodhicitta is the excellent basis; no matter whether giving involves general or specific categories, not abandoning this intention is the excellent object; giving for the sake of all sentient beings to obtain immediate happiness and long-term benefit is the excellent intention; being embraced by non-discriminating wisdom is the excellent means; being embraced by the excellent dedication of dedicating the merit of giving to complete enlightenment; and being embraced by the pure excellence that prevents the two obscurations of afflictions and knowledge. For non-excellent thoughts, they should be eliminated, such as the wrong view that giving has no result, and the idea that harm is also Dharma, thereby harming the lives of sentient beings, etc., or disturbing directions with deceptive means, using commerce and other means to make other beings travel back and forth in distant directions, exhausting them with heavy burdens, and giving alms with such wealth is the same as the heretical sect that claims harm is Dharma. Furthermore, associating giving with auspiciousness, or giving with an arrogant attitude, or giving in order to compete with others, or giving arrogantly in front of beggars, or giving with the arrogant attitude that one is a generous giver and others are not, or thinking that one can be free from worldly and transmundane attachments simply because one has completed giving.

Thinking that it will change, etc. In short, fearing the burden of writing, regarding the thirty-six impure givings that are mentioned, if one has a little ability and prides oneself on having discipline, one criticizes others' stinginess and loose behavior, etc. This can also represent the remaining situations, causing anger in others, thereby falling into hell. From the Sutra of Purification of Karmic Obscurations, it also says: 'When ordinary people give alms, they do not have faith in stingy people, and they also generate anger and fall into hell, which is an obstacle to giving. When guarding precepts, if one speaks ill of those who do not keep pure precepts, it will cause many people not to have faith, and this lack of faith will lead to falling into evil destinies. When abiding in patience, etc., not praising those who abide in aspects contrary to these is an obstacle to discipline, etc.' Therefore, the Protector, Lord of the Nagas (Nagarjuna), said: 'Although I have perfect wealth, I should not despise others, but with a heart like ghee, I should hide all qualities within.' This meaning should also be understood. Furthermore, the giving of a Bodhisattva is to give to the beggar immediately upon obtaining enjoyment, rather than accumulating a lot and giving it all at once, because that is not only a cause for arrogance and dependence on others, but also during that time, various afflictions such as stinginess will arise, as well as various discriminations of guarding and increasing, thereby hindering many virtuous deeds, and it may even be lost in the middle, leading to the failure of the act of giving. In short, the benefits of giving that do not cause displeasure to others, such as not giving quickly and enumerating favors, are stated in the Chapter on Truthfulness: 'Giving with reverence, relatives, etc., will treat one with reverence; giving with one's hand, one will receive reverence; giving on time, things will be accomplished on time; giving without harming others, one will obtain stable enjoyment; giving while enduring discomfort, one's retinue will be close.' Furthermore, in order to eliminate the faults of people with the stain of stinginess, one should use skillful and gentle speech, and also give some material things.
