Since beginningless time, the habitual imprints of ignorance, merely appearing as non-existent, therefore, the pleasures that appear in the conventional world of objects of attachment, etc., are merely mind and mental factors arising, although many kinds are spoken of. But like the Vaibhashika Hearers, who consider gross objects composed of aggregates of atoms to be self-characterized, and who say that there is no self-awareness of mind and mental factors, etc., although there are other views, in reality, they do not accept appearance as wisdom, and there is no similarity to things like arising from the swelling of one's own cause. Even though they do not accept self-awareness like the Mind-Only school, they do accept a mere wisdom that does not distinguish between existence and non-existence, as stated in the Minor Commentary: "The wisdom of each individual's own awareness." This is the view of the Prasangika Madhyamaka, which has reached the pinnacle of the Vehicle of Reasoning: Thus, appearance itself is conventional, and emptiness is ultimate, established by mere terms, free from any extreme of elaboration, and at the time of appearance, there is no birth, cessation, coming, or going. Even the conventional, which is considered to be other-dependent, is not accepted as an extreme of establishment. That is the great one who pioneered the Prasangika chariot, the special characteristic of Nagarjuna and Chandrakirti. Here, for all the aspects of the lower, the upper will not be confused by debate and examination. Thus, appearance itself is conventional, and emptiness itself is ultimate, etc., this is the wisdom arising from hearing and thinking, teaching that all dharmas are learned in the manner of the two truths, and for those who do not see this shore, who have views, it is merely based on terms, combined with clinging thoughts. The two truths are also truly shown to be one and not different, and if they are one, just as abandoning the conventional, the ultimate will also change now, just as the conventional is different, so is the ultimate, just as the conventional is defiled, so is the ultimate. If it is other, it will not become a subject, nor will it overwhelm the characteristics of the conditioned, nor will the path of meditation become meaningful. Therefore, for one and other, because there is the reason of self-nature, it will not become a Prasangika. The tenet established by convention prevents the vows of others,

Since it primarily employs contradictory reasoning to refute the opponent's commitments, being devoid of all admissions of direct perception and inference, it is called the Prasangika. As the venerable Nagarjuna said: If I had any thesis, I would have that fault; since I have no thesis, I am therefore faultless. And as Aryadeva said: For whom there is no partiality towards existence, non-existence, or both, for him, even for a long time, it is not possible to utter any criticism. Nowadays, the distinction of not acknowledging one's own nature, svatantra, and self-awareness, considering the clinging to reality as afflictive obscurations, and the distinction of not distinguishing between coarse and subtle selflessness, the distinction of acknowledging that cessation is the ultimate truth, and that the noble shravakas and pratyekabuddhas are pervaded by the realization of the selflessness of phenomena, the distinction of considering the consciousness of ordinary beings as deluded consciousness, and considering inferential consciousness as valid cognition, the distinction of asserting that the basis of mental direct perception and conceptual thought is the same, and the distinction of having ordinary beings who directly realize subtle impermanence, the distinction of asserting that the three times are real, and merely realizing the sixteen aspects such as gross impermanence, one cannot even enter the path of accumulation of any of the three vehicles, and there is the distinction of casting the Prasangika. Therefore, in this tenet system, the nature of all phenomena is unborn, and the nature of reality is free from all extremes of elaboration, so from the moment of appearance, it is unborn, unceasing, primordially peaceful, and naturally in nirvana, even the conventional truth that is acknowledged is refuted. Chandrakirti said: Just as you desire other-dependence, I do not accept even the conventional. If so, how is the nature of all phenomena as unborn or born established? In the Sutra of the Mother Bhagavati, it says: O venerable Subhuti, is it that the unborn dharma is born, or that the born is born? Subhuti said: O venerable Shariputra, I do not assert that the unborn dharma is born, nor do I assert that the born is born, this is refuting the vows of others' commitments. Again, if one thinks that this appearance without cessation is established as birth and so on, that is merely a characteristic imputed by the mind, there is no tenet of asserting establishment or non-establishment, so there is no negation of mere appearance. As Aryadeva said: ཇ
