It is merely established as words that abandon both extremes. As the sutra says: 'Truth and falsehood are also extremes; existence and non-existence are also extremes. Therefore, having completely abandoned both extremes, the wise do not even dwell in the middle.' Therefore, the ultimate Middle Way is solely the way of uniting the two truths. Among those who abide in the two, Svatantrika and Prasangika, the former, the Svatantrika, is: 'How all appearances are established as illusion-like in conventional truth, while in ultimate truth, there is no establishment, like the sky. This is the system of the Middle Way Svatantrika.' As it says in the 'Destruction of Delusion': 'Conventional truth with objects, in ultimate truth, all objects and subjects are liberated.' Thus, all aspects of appearance seem like illusions from the perspective of conventional truth, but in ultimate truth, they are not established as true in the slightest, like the sky. Moreover, from the standpoint of the basis of designation, all phenomena are established as conventional and ultimate depending on the mind. Even though truth is not established in their nature, they are considered to be their own characteristics from the standpoint of designation, hence they are called Svatantrika. Among these, there are two distinctions: those who do not accept ultimate truth as an object of knowledge and those who do. The first is: in conventional truth, even without appearance, it clearly appears, like the confusion of a dream. In Svatantrika, it is only established as appearing to arise, but from the perspective of the objects of meritorious knowledge, such as the two truths, all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are not established. As it says in the 'Intermediate Mother': 'Yogis, all phenomena are without inherent nature in ultimate truth, so nirvana is neither born nor ceases.' Therefore, the distinction and characteristics of the two truths are merely the establishment of the nature of peace, so they are regarded as nominal ultimate truths. Because the non-nominal ultimate truth is beyond the realm of knowable and expressible, it should be understood as a way of cutting off elaboration, in order to avoid false imputations arising from reasoning such as one and many, existence and non-existence. Moreover, it is well known that in the Middle Way treatises, the ultimate truth of no arising and ceasing is established by the knowledge of the four great reasonings. In particular, each chapter of the 'Root Wisdom' also establishes different categories of knowledge that determine the subtle points of emptiness.

Yes, for example, the first chapter of the Root Wisdom Treatise explains ten different detailed explanations and two different conclusions, totaling twelve. Here, for the time being, it should be understood through four well-known methods: the Vajra Splinter, the refutation of existence and non-existence of arising, the refutation of arising through the four extremes, and the Great Dependent Arising. The first is: refuting the object to be refuted by examining the cause of the object to be refuted. As stated in the Root Wisdom Treatise: Not from self, not from other, nor from both, nor without cause. Things that arise, anywhere, never exist. Therefore, as a phenomenon, even just a thing itself, in ultimate truth, does not arise from self, other, both, or without cause, and whatever arises is empty, just as there is no thing in a mere generality. The second is: refuting by examining the result of what is to be refuted. As it says: The meaning of existence or non-existence is also not suitable, and conditions should not be established for them. If there is nothing, how can there be conditions? If there is something, what is the use of conditions? Therefore, as a phenomenon, this dependent arising appearance is also empty of the three aspects of existence, non-existence, and arising of the result in the cause in ultimate truth. Thus, whatever is empty of the arising of existence and non-existence of the result from the cause, and is empty of all arising things, is like indicating the essence even though there is no thing. The third is: refuting by examining both cause and effect. As stated in the Entering the Two Truths: Many do not make one thing, many do not make many, one does not make many things, nor does one make one. Therefore, in this way, what appears is also empty of arising from one to one, from one to many, from many to many, and from many to one in ultimate truth. For example, like designating emptiness for something that does not exist. The fourth has two aspects: establishing the non-affirmative negation as a reason, refuting by examining the nature of the Great Dependent Arising itself, and establishing the affirmative negation as a reason, being separate from one and many. The first is: Whatever arises from conditions is unborn; it does not have the nature of being born. Therefore, dependent arising is also free from the eight extremes such as arising and ceasing, and therefore is empty of true nature, like the dependent arising that appears like a mirage shimmering.
