From the Great Transcendence Sutra. Manjushri, as a youth, asked: "Bhagavan, what is meant by conventional truth and ultimate truth? Is there no conventional truth in ultimate truth? Is there ultimate truth in conventional truth? If there is, then the two truths become one. If there is, then wouldn't the Tathagata's words become false?" The Buddha replied: "Son of good family, conventional truth itself is ultimate truth." "Bhagavan, is there then two truths?" The Buddha replied: "Son of good family, through skillful means, two truths are taught for the benefit of sentient beings. Son of good family, in terms of words, there are two aspects: worldly dharma and transcendental dharma. Son of good family, the knowledge of a transcendental person is ultimate truth. The knowledge of a person is conventional truth." Thus it is said. The so-called knowledge of a person is from the Jewel Source Sutra: "Like the tracks of birds in the sky, beings are also like that, originally non-existent. Like looking at frog's hair, likewise, contemplate the nature of peace. Like a face's reflection in a mirror, the wise say its nature is empty." Thus it is. Even so, for the time being, with the knowledge of the five objects, view it like unmixed colors. Take hold of the desired enjoyment of forms, etc. Grasping onto that as that, making discriminating thoughts of negation and affirmation. Contemplate all confused appearances as the eight examples of illusion. Thus, on the path of practice with faith, the phenomena that appear, namely form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, the five objects of desire, with the mind of the object-possessor entering the five desires, arising discriminating thoughts of negation and affirmation, contemplate all confused appearances with the eight examples of illusion, contemplating their appearance as without inherent existence. Those who are accustomed to and realize this are liberated from the city of existence, which is called grasping the path of liberation. Not being content with just that, the way to greatly advance on the Bodhisattva path is from the Great Secret Skillful Means: Although Shravakas and Bodhisattvas enter and arise from samadhi, Shravakas only know that they themselves attain Nirvana, while Bodhisattvas gather sentient beings through the four objects of gathering.

Exertion is continuous, and sentient beings are completely matured by the six perfections, and great compassion is generated for sentient beings. This is the skillful means of a Bodhisattva. And so on, it is widely said. Thus, the two truths are distinguished, and at the time of equipoise, if the ultimate wisdom can withstand analysis, then it is not the ultimate truth, because wisdom is the conventional truth. The characteristics that contradict one and many have never existed in the realm of wisdom. Therefore, the nature of the ultimate truth is free from the appearance of wisdom, grasping and being grasped. The elaboration that appears on it is the conventional truth, because it is not established in any one or many, so saying the two truths is just a casual remark, and it does not fall into any side from one basis, so it is something that wisdom cannot analyze. If what can be analyzed by wisdom is the ultimate truth, then the horns of a rabbit should also have shape and color. Like this, what can be analyzed by wisdom is only what is measured by wisdom, so all conditioned phenomena, including the eight consciousnesses, are conventional truths, and can never be transcended, so they are extremely contradictory to the ultimate truth. The "Entering the Middle Way" says: "The ultimate is not the object of wisdom, wisdom is considered to be the conventional truth." And, the commentary on the Indian treatise says: "The ultimate and so on are mentioned. Here, the word 'ultimate' is the name of everything, but it is explained as extremely hidden, the indivisible nature of all things. That itself is the peaceful ultimate truth, it is truly not false, and the truth that is merely dependent is just a fabrication, because it is the object of discrimination. Furthermore, wisdom such as appearance and non-appearance are called conventional truths, because they obscure the seeing of the ultimate truth." Therefore, it is very clear. Furthermore, the appearance of the realm of wisdom, and on the shore of those elaborations, all phenomena either converge into one, or abide in the state of being many. However, the ultimate truth is extremely contradictory to this, so there is no possibility of existing together with wisdom. Even so, the "Samdhinirmocana Sutra" says: "The nature of the conditioned realm and the ultimate, is the nature of being free from one and different."
