Because offering the body to the lama has the necessity of becoming a vessel for obtaining the supreme wisdom of all Buddhas, and the sentient beings who will become Buddhas in the future, offering the body to those who are pervasive with the essence of the Tathagata has the necessity of accomplishing the ultimate benefit of sentient beings. Therefore, it is said: To the Tathagata, the powerful sentient beings, I offer my body for three purposes. Thus it is said. Vowing to be a servant of the Three Jewels, the cool shade, the delicate and charming flowers of the Sal tree, even in the presence of the tumultuous Lord of Death, the value of the vanishing angry wrinkles is immeasurable. Thus, vowing to be a servant of the Three Jewels is of great significance. Because the cool shade of their compassion is like the hell beings suffering severely in the pit of fire, being able to breathe under the lush foliage of the Sal tree flowers. In all circumstances, not being peaceful, being seized by the fierce messengers of Yama, and the angry wrinkles terrified by the great terror, will also dissipate in the moment of remembering the Three Jewels, and there is no doubt that those lords of immeasurable compassion will protect. The reason is as follows: Whoever sees Yama, the messengers, and other enemies, who are terrified and scatter in all directions, I take refuge in the Vajra Holder. Thus it is clarified. Although it is so, these beings are overwhelmed by the power of evil karma, and have always failed to vow to be servants of the meaningful Three Jewels, and merely thinking that they have become their slaves, they can also obtain immeasurable merit. Because such a distinction has never appeared in the mind in a whole lifetime. Seeing the wicked people such as kings oppressing with power, cutting off limbs, hanging them up, placing them on the rack, beating them with canes, controlling the body and life and enslaving them, these people were not originally their servants, but they entered by creating great offerings, and seeing these, they also became weary, therefore the glorious Lord of Speech said: This matter is done, tomorrow again this matter is done, after that other matters must also be done, not knowing the nature of the changing of samsara, vainly seeking trust, the water in the mouth of the Lord of Death of beings.

Just as a boat enters the mouth of a demon, it falls into the whirlpool of the local river before the task is completed. As it is said. Therefore, I, a sinful person overwhelmed by the power of ignorance, am like a clear crystal that has been carefully polished. In the mind where the impurities of merit have been cleared away, the image obtained through the ritual of generating Bodhicitta appears. In this way, the seven-limbed practice and the methods of mind training related to before and after are indeed of great significance. We are not like those with wrong views who believe in causeless birth or birth from a lord, but have been wandering in samsara since beginningless time. In countless lifetimes, this life or other lives, we are overwhelmed by the power of ignorance and are as ignorant as livestock. Because we do not understand karma and its results, we are accustomed to sinful actions. Because we are transgressors of precepts and of our own nature, we become obstacles to the arising of the precious Bodhicitta. All forms of defilement are like a refiner wiping with a cloth for the sake of the Dharma, or like a well-polished clear crystal, all non-meritorious impurities are instantly cleared away, and in the well-tamed pure mind, the image of the

And, paying attention, by shooting the flower arrow at whichever of the five afflictions is the strongest, that affliction blazes up fiercely, and being controlled by it, one declines from liberation and higher rebirth, falling into the abyss of hundreds of thousands of faults. Having fallen, one will also be afflicted by these kinds of epidemics, namely the four outflows, the four rivers, the four bonds, the four graspings, the three bonds, the nine pervasive afflictions, the eighteen views of the self, the ten entanglements, the six aggregates of afflictions, the six stains of afflictions, the five obscurations, the five lower fetters, the five higher fetters, the ten grounds, the two non-virtuous grounds, and the fifty-seven minor foundations of yogis. There are many near afflictions, mainly one hundred and fifty-six as they are. Such a fierce epidemic, one of them could destroy all the people of Jambudvipa, but ordinary medicine has no means to deal with it. This is because the cause of being afflicted by the four hundred and four diseases caused by wind, bile, phlegm, and the combination cannot be cured. Therefore, the king of doctors, the omniscient one, removes the cause of physical pain, and relying on the excellent Dharma medicine, he removes the pain of afflictions from the root, so take refuge in him alone, he is the king of medicines, the best, the most excellent, and also the richest, and the precious bodhicitta, which is the antidote to the four hundred and four diseases of afflictions, will be easily obtained. This is the teaching of the power of generating devotion to the field of merit. Having generated devotion in this way, if there is an excellent lama, that is best, even if there is only an image, it is fine. Visualizing the field of merit is: For what kind of faith have you come here, O teacher who cares for the realm of sentient beings, the sole Mahayana being, who shines brightly in the midst of the sangha. This is the Tathagatagarbha, the object of taking vows.
