The supplication is as follows: Please light the lamp of Dharma to illuminate the darkness of suffering for sentient beings. Like Brahma, encourage the possession of aspiration, courage, and generosity; like the Venerable Rabjor, encourage proficiency in asking and answering; like the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara and the Lord of Secrets, encourage proficiency in profound and vast realms; like the Noble Inexhaustible Intelligence and the Licchavi Vimalakīrti, encourage proficiency in skillful means with one's own courage, similarly, focusing on the Buddhas of the ten directions and their retinues, and genuinely requesting virtuous friends who possess both name and meaning. This will purify the fault of transgressing vows, and one will uphold the sacred Dharma in all lifetimes. Sixth, requesting them not to enter into Nirvāṇa, but to remain: Seeing that these beings, who should be abandoned by the Buddhas and their sons, temporarily cling to suffering, on a seat that is not Nirvāṇa, pile up the value of all things. Whoever does not have a teacher and disciples, their teachings will also decline. Without that, one does not understand the acceptance and rejection of actions and their results, therefore engaging in the cause and effect of pure suffering, and being abandoned by the path of liberation, even if one has a good rebirth, one will be reduced to a single state of disadvantage. Having thought in this way, just as the layperson Cunda requested our teacher to postpone Nirvāṇa, focusing on the Buddhas who reside in infinite realms, and genuinely offering to the holy beings, repeatedly pray for them to remain. As a result of this, one will not die untimely. Seventh, the limb of dedication: Even the white deeds that tremble with self-clinging, are a single cry of increase in Saṃsāra; blessed with the alchemy of dedication to Bodhi, this is not in the tradition of other teachers. Thus, good deeds mixed with self-clinging, which are focused on the happiness and results of Saṃsāra, are called shared merit, and the result will ripen once and then be exhausted. Similarly, in the state of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas.

Dedication should be understood as having inferior results. In the Intermediate Mother Sutra, it says: 'Subhuti, this root of virtue should only be dedicated by the Buddha. It should not be dedicated to the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, nor to any other place.' Therefore, focusing on all sentient beings and dedicating solely to perfect enlightenment is like iron turning into gold. Even the name is unheard of among the Tirthikas and others. Thus, Nagarjuna says: 'Whatever great accumulation of merit is completely dedicated to sentient beings, that which the Lord of Sages has spoken, is not explained in other treatises.' Furthermore, the object of dedication is: In the Avatamsaka Sutra, it says: 'All beings have whatever merit, done, will be done, and are doing.' That is, whatever merit sentient beings have done, and what one has done before, will do later, and is doing now, belonging to the three times, is merit. What should be abandoned is that if one does not aim for all sentient beings to attain Buddhahood, one will fall into the Hinayana. In the Intermediate Mother Sutra, it says: 'It should also be dedicated for the benefit of all sentient beings, not just for one's own complete attainment, because one will fall into the state of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas.' Furthermore, the aspect of the object is not to cling to the mistaken appearance as true, but to dedicate in a way that is without appearance, like an illusion or a dream. As the previous sutra says: 'Subhuti, all dharmas are like a dream, like an illusion, and merit is also dedicated in a way that is like a dream, like an illusion.' The nature of dedication is: the mind that transforms the root of virtue into enlightenment with aspiration. In the Ornamentation of the Land of Manjushri Sutra, it says: 'All dharmas are like conditions, completely abiding at the peak of aspiration, whatever prayer is made, one will obtain such a result.' Words that are in accordance with this can only be accomplished by following the words of those who have realized the qualities of the noble path from the first ground onwards, and whose words of truth are accomplished. It is not accomplished by just anyone. Nowadays, Tibetans do not understand this, and blindly follow the delusions of those vulgar people who do not even have correct combinations of words. So, if one knows the words of dedication, the patron can...
