The power of knowing equanimity, etc., the power of knowing the memory of previous lives, likewise the power of knowing death, transference, and birth, the power of knowing the exhaustion of all defilements, these are the ten powers. Having briefly shown this, the distinction of its nature is: From what cause will what effect necessarily arise? That is its realm, as the wise ones have said. Contrary to what is said, the knowable that is not a realm is infinite, knowing without obstruction, this is said to be power. The meaning explained by these and others is as follows: From whatever cause of virtuous, non-virtuous, and mixed actions, the result of happiness, suffering, and neutrality arises, likewise without deception, this is the realm; whatever is contrary to this is not the realm, the power of knowing without obstruction; likewise, desire, non-desire, and what is contrary to both, and exhausted things, that is, non-contaminated actions and their ripening, all that is encompassed by the things of the three times, the power of knowing; various afflictions such as attachment, and other than that, middling aspirations and particularly excellent desires, etc., how the aspirations of ordinary beings and noble beings of the three times are, seeing as they are, the power of knowing various aspirations; the five physical sense faculties such as the eye, and their consciousnesses, that is, the five non-physical ones, those five that desire to relate to each other as object and subject, the sixteen emptinesses of nature, etc., are the distinctions of the divisions of the realms. Knowing all that exists as knowable in the three times at once, that is, the power of knowing various realms; the twenty-one sense faculties such as the eye, together with their results, and the order of the sense faculties divided by the distinctions of sharp, medium, and dull, seeing all of them completely, the power of knowing superior and non-superior sense faculties; the six realms and the paths of hearers, solitary realizers, and Buddhas, etc., all the forms of true and inverted paths, the power of knowing the path of travel; in the infinite realms of the three times, the four dhyanas and the eight liberations, and the nine successive abidings in equanimity, etc., all
