One enters into the practice of the path. In the middling accumulation path, unwholesome dharmas that have not arisen are not caused to arise, and those that have arisen are cut off. Wholesome dharmas that have not arisen are caused to arise, and those that have arisen are cultivated to increase, and one strives to cultivate antidotes such as selflessness and illusion or dreams. In the great accumulation path, the four legs of magical power are: inwardly cultivating the samadhi of the union of calm and insight, with one-pointed concentration, thereby accomplishing the meaning of the eye, clairvoyance, magical powers, and so on. This is because the mind is made workable by meditation and accomplished by power, hence it is called the four legs of magical power. These are the four samadhis of aspiration, effort, mind, and conduct. The meaning of this is also as stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Having fixed the mind on the object, do not let it wander in various ways. Having quickly realized the wandering, one should again train in it." Second, combining non-conceptual wisdom with the path of seeing is the characteristic of the path of joining, where the basis of the body is any of the five realms of beings, and the basis of the mind is any of the six meditation grounds. The nature of the path abides in the four: heat, peak, forbearance, and supreme dharma. Among these, in the two, heat and peak, one cultivates the five faculties: the faculty of faith, the faculty of effort, the faculty of mindfulness, the faculty of samadhi, and the faculty of wisdom. Because liberation arises, these are the five non-material faculties. The way to cultivate them is to first generate the mind of enlightenment, and then, on the impermanence of the four truths, or on the meaning of knowing all dharmas as the two truths, one cultivates with faith in the manner of believing, generates joy with effort, enters the stream of realization with mindfulness, joins the mind to one point with samadhi, and cultivates with wisdom in the manner of knowing the nature. In the two, forbearance and supreme dharma, one cultivates the five powers: the power of faith and so on, combining them as before and cultivating them in the same way. The definition is that they are called powers because they destroy opposing factors. Thus, the order of wisdom of the four parts of the path of joining, with the three distinctions of small, medium, and large, is called the twelve aspects conforming to definite emergence, that is, according to their order, the heat of obtaining appearance is that all dharmas are appearances of the mind.

Merely seeing the wisdom arising from worldly meditation and the slight appearances obtained as real is the antidote to that. The peak, where appearances increase, is when, in order to increase the appearances of the Dharma itself, one strives to meditate on selflessness, thereby obtaining the intermediate appearances arising from worldly meditation. Patience, which is entering one aspect of suchness itself, is when, having obtained the great appearances arising from worldly meditation as held by the Mind-Only school, it is the antidote to clinging to generalities. Supreme Dharma, immediately following that, is the perfection of worldly meditation arising without the distraction of clinging to reality. There is no interruption between the Great Vehicle's path of seeing and others. Among these, heat and peak are called small, being the path of joining where the time of arising of the path of seeing is uncertain. Patience is intermediate, being the path of joining where the path of seeing is certain to arise in the next life. Supreme Dharma is great, being the path of joining where the path of seeing arises in this very life. That path has five characteristics that are superior to the lower ones: Regarding the characteristics of the antidotes, there are the antidote of refutation, the antidote of abandonment, the antidote of support, and the antidote of delay, but here the antidote of abandonment predominates. The characteristics of abandonment are liberation from the seeds of obscurations, the decline of manifest occurrences, and the poverty and degeneration of ordinary beings. The characteristics of realization are the realization of the wisdom arising from meditation and the two selflessnesses. The characteristics of qualities are possessing many qualities such as samadhi, eyes, superknowledges, and miracles. The characteristics of being superior to the path of accumulation are that although the great path of accumulation and that arising from meditation are similar, there is a difference in the path of seeing in terms of nearness and distance and whether the heat of wisdom is stable or unstable. The Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Stanza Prajnaparamita Sutra says, "If there are no obstacles, then the Dharma of the path of seeing will quickly arise," and one should understand that this is the difference from what is similar to the aspect of liberation. Third, because one directly sees the nature of reality, it is called the path of seeing. Its definition is, as stated in the Sutra Requested by Sagacious Intelligence, "The eye of Dharma is without dust, free from defilement, and completely pure," so it is the path of seeing. And "extremely pure" is the wisdom of the eighth ground. The support of the body is any of the five types of beings, and the support of the mind is thought.
