In summary, that which explains the conventional truth is that which needs interpretation; that which explains the ultimate truth is definitive. So it is said. From the perspective of the expression, the teachings of the scriptures have twelve branches, as stated in the Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses: Sutra, Verse, Prophecy, and, Gatha, Self-utterance, Nidana, Avadana, Itivuttaka, Jataka, Vaipulya, Adbhuta, and Upadesha, these are the twelve branches of the scriptures. So on and so forth. From the perspective of antidotes, there are three pitakas: as mentioned before, the first five are the Sutra Pitaka of the Shravakas, the middle three are the Vinaya Pitaka of the Shravakas, and among the last four, the Jataka section is the retinue of the Bodhisattva Vinaya Pitaka, the Extensive and the Wondrous are the Bodhisattva Sutra Pitaka, and the Upadesha section is established as the Abhidharma Pitaka common to both Shravakas and Bodhisattvas. For the Pratyekabuddhas, there is no separate pitaka, but they rely on the Shravaka Pitaka. In short, Vasubandhu said: The Sutra Pitaka explains the three trainings, the Vinaya Pitaka explains the higher training in discipline and the higher training in mind, because those who possess discipline can attain samadhi through the stages of non-regret, etc. The Dharma Pitaka explains the higher training in wisdom, because it reveals the meaning without distortion. So it is said. These are also distinguished from the perspective of the beings to be tamed, and from the perspective of skillful means, the most excellent is the Vidyadhara Pitaka, as Acharya Aryadeva also said: The Vidyadhara Pitaka. Thus, it is separated and established as the fourth pitaka, because it is said in the Sutra Teaching: The three vehicles of guidance, the Bhagavan certainly proclaimed, the cause and effect are spontaneously accomplished, and the Buddha is not sought from elsewhere, why is the definitive vehicle not spoken of? So on and so forth. Thus, the four pitakas of the teachings of the scriptures are also from the actions of the causal conditions of the owner, from letters, letters gather into names, names gather into sentences, and sentences gather into scriptures, which are the support of the vows of refuge. The Dharma of realization begins with the four mindfulnesses, in sequence...

Thus, all the merits of the five paths, possessing the essence of the wisdom of realization and cessation of the noble ones, the generation stage and the completion stage, retention and exhaustion, the four paths of learning and the reality of the path of no more learning, the ten grounds of cause, the thirteen of result, etc., the types of Vajrayana are immeasurable, whose wisdom relies on the continuum. Thereupon, that which becomes the basis of the qualities of realization is the ground, as it is said in the Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses: "Because it becomes the basis of qualities, it is called ground." It is said thus. It is also determined as the eight grounds of Hearers and Solitary Realizers and the ten grounds of Bodhisattvas. The former is, as it is said in the Intermediate Mother Sutra: "Because of lineage, the eighth ground, the ground of seeing, the ground of thinning, the ground of detachment from desire, the ground of realization of what has been done, the ground of Hearers, the ground of Solitary Realizers, these are the grounds of Hearers and Solitary Realizers." It is said thus. It is said in the Garland of Jewels: "As in the Hearer Vehicle, it is said that there are eight Hearer grounds, likewise in the Great Vehicle, there are ten Bodhisattva grounds." It is said thus. The basis of the ground is definitely the five paths themselves, so here they are explained in order from the path of accumulation. Thereupon, first, practicing mainly with the accumulation of hearing, thinking, and merit is the characteristic of the path of accumulation. Also, in the minor path of accumulation, there are four mindfulnesses, among which the mindfulness of the body is, in equipoise like space, in post-equipoise meditating on impurity and like illusion. The mindfulness of feeling is, in equipoise not arising, in post-equipoise whatever is felt is suffering, and meditating as if like a water tree without essence. The mindfulness of mind is, in equipoise empty of nature, in post-equipoise meditating on not ceasing and not abiding. The mindfulness of phenomena is, in equipoise equality, in post-equipoise meditating like the eight similes of illusion. Thus, by practicing the four mindfulnesses in the minor path of accumulation, the way to enter the four truths of the path of seeing is, first, by knowing the body as suffering, entering into knowing suffering. Second, by knowing feeling as suffering, entering into abandoning the origin. Third, by meditating on the mind as impermanent, manifesting the cessation of stopping the clinging to permanence. Fourth, by meditating on phenomena as selfless, turning away from clinging to self.
