If extensive aspirations are not made, this suffering will recur again and again. Especially those who have taken the vows of ordination, once renunciation arises in their own minds, they become qualified Pratimoksha holders. Thereafter, as the previous Khenpos have said, it is merely a shadow of the vows. The opposite of good aspirations is: entering the Dharma gate but becoming weary, engaging in hearing, thinking, and meditating with a poisonous motivation, losing interest in the Dharma, guarding vows becoming a burden, cursing with the eight worldly concerns, wandering in the pretense of Mahayana practice, this is the defilement that destroys the asceticism of good aspirations. Thus, some individuals, although brought into the Dharma gate by relatives and friends, because they have not accumulated merit in the past and have not made good aspirations, become weary of the Dharma as soon as they enter the Dharma gate, becoming servants of kings, or becoming slaves of fools and householders, engaging in harmony with their thoughts and actions. Even if they engage in some hearing and thinking, due to the evil motivation of keeping only this life in mind, initially fearing not learning the Dharma, in the middle fearing not obtaining gains from it, and finally clinging to jealousy of others, they ultimately become solely the cause of samsara, deviating from the path of liberation. Because their minds are not small in relation to the Dharma, they lack faith in the Dharma, and without faith, hearing, thinking, and meditating, listening and explaining, guarding vows, all become too much and a burden. Especially for the profound and vast Dharma of the Great Vehicle, they cannot comprehend it and consider it contradictory, or they do not understand the relationship between behavior and time, deceiving themselves with the eight worldly concerns that appear like Dharma, these are like Rahu obscuring the autumn moon, defiling the asceticism of good aspirations. Therefore, abandoning these, directly targeting the five great poisons of afflictions, with the powerful antidote of the three types of individuals, climbing the ladder to enlightenment, without weariness in the four seasons, all appearances arise as Dharma and the Guru, becoming the cause for attaining omniscience, this is the accomplishment of good aspirations. Our teacher, considering the three types of minds of beings, taught the Dharma of the three types of individuals, whichever is practiced, it becomes the direct antidote to one's own afflictions, without clinging to sectarianism, and practicing their meaning.

To generate the diligence of enduring difficulties for that (Bodhisattva), acting without weariness in the four periods. Those four periods are clearly shown in the Sutra Pitaka itself, without boasting of impartiality and underestimating realization. As stated in the *Inconceivable Boy Sutra*: the past boundary is secluded, the future boundary is immutable, the present arising is known to be destructive, and the equality of the three times, these are the four. Therefore, when the meaning of the equality of the three times is realized, one will deeply penetrate the profound emptiness. All appearances arise as Dharma and Guru, becoming the cause of omniscience, which is called the accomplishment of good wishes. Now, to show the fourth wheel, which is the aspiration for the refuge of merit, (the sutra says:) The joy of the seven qualities of higher realms, In leisure, truly noble and without illness, Samadhi and discriminating wisdom, five, Respect for merit in the past is a manifest sign. Like this, temporarily attaining an eminent position, and ultimately certainly accomplishing excellent results, all causes depend on merit alone. Those who have previously accumulated vast and uninterrupted merit, then in this present existence, will obtain a noble lineage, beautiful form, complete wealth, free power, sharp wisdom, long life, freedom from illness, happiness and well-being, possessing the special leisure of having the seven qualities of higher realms. Vasubandhu said: With the desire for various qualities, If there is no seed of effort, There is no sprout that arises. Faults alone can, destroy many qualities. Long life, likewise, and freedom from illness, Form and good fortune and lineage, Wealth and wisdom, these seven. The joy arising from that (merit), samadhi, and discriminating wisdom, and the two that belong to the higher ones, possessing these five are said to be signs of accumulating merit in the past. As it says in the *Ornament of the Sutras*: Joy and arising in leisure, and freedom from illness and samadhi, The root of discrimination that distinguishes, are due to accumulating merit in past lives. If explained in detail from the perspective of example and meaning, then all the collections of goodness in samsara and nirvana, increase and decrease, are both the actions of merit and non-merit.
