It is the entirety of accumulation and purification. The opposing side will not trample upon it, and walking on the path relies on merit. This is the ladder to the path of a great person. The six perfections are the main path of the Great Vehicle, just as when traveling, one needs food and means of restoring strength, as well as rituals to protect against enemies and thieves. Here, the branches of meritorious activities, such as taking refuge, the seven-branch prayer, mandala offerings, and water torma, must be manifestly accumulated and purified extensively. If the mind arises with the thought of accumulating merit, and one believes that the result of merit is unfailing, then even those afflictions called wealth and enjoyment have a human body as their basis. From that preparation, the merit of offerings and generosity made with a vast intention, relying solely on pure water to purify fields here in Tibet, is sufficient for rituals. Because in India and other places, due to the intense geothermal heat, only turbid water can be found, and it is difficult to find any that is pure. Therefore, do not be attached to objects and utensils, but be attached to one's own faith and diligence. If this is seen as a fault, then rejoice in the virtues of others, make offerings with ownerless flowers and fruits, offer offerings using the body, plant flowers and temple gardens, water fish suffering on dry land, and give the gift of fearlessness to small creatures in ponds and rooftops that have become places of harm, trembling and frightened by the fear of death. It is said in the tantras: Oṃ Jñāna Avalokite Namaḥ Manta Spharaṇa Raśmi Bhava Samaya Mahāmaṇi Duru Duru Hṛdaye Jalani Hūṃ. (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་ཛྙཱ་ན་ཨ་བ་ལོ་ཀི་ཏེ་ན་མས་མནྟ་སྥ་ར་ཎ་རསྨི་བྷ་བ་ས་མ་ཡ། མ་ཧཱ་མ་ཎི། དུ་རུ་དུ་རུ། ཧྲྀ་ད་ཡ་ཛ་ལ་ནི་ཧཱུཾ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॐ ज्ञान अवलोकिते नमः मन्त स्फररण रश्मि भव समय महामणि दुरु दुरु हृदये जलनि हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ jñāna avalokite namaḥ manta spharaṇa raśmi bhava samaya mahāmaṇi duru duru hṛdaye jalani hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om, wisdom, Avalokiteshvara, Homage, mantra, radiating, rays, being, samaya, great jewel, duru duru, in the heart, water, Hum.) Sitting by a river or the sea, fill the palm of your right hand with water, recite this essence of the wisdom meteor seven times, and then pour seven handfuls of water into the river. Then, all the pretas seen by the eyes of the Buddha will receive the taste of divine food and drink. Each preta will be nourished with food and drink equivalent to seven bre of Magadha, and just by drinking that water

All those places will be liberated from the realm of pretas and will be born in the happy realms of the heavens. Whether it be a man, woman, boy, girl, or any being belonging to the animal realm, such as pretas, birds, aquatic creatures, etc., all those who drink this water will have all their sins and obscurations purified and will go to the path of happiness. Thus it is said. Similarly, relying on leftover food and being widely known, the dharani called "Excellent Form," which includes (Tibetan: རཱུ་པ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: रूपा, Sanskrit Romanization: rūpa, Chinese literal meaning: form). The "Great Power" dharani spoken to Ananda in Kapilavastu, the "Flame in the Mouth" dharani spoken to Nanda, related to the benefits of these four names. The "Interruption of Obstacles" dharani spoken to the two supreme ones, and so on. In short, relying on small efforts and accumulations, their number is countless. Similarly, such as dripping and giving the body, and cleaning temples and roads. The Tathagata also swept the garden of the Anathapindika's alms-giving, we cannot fully comprehend, therefore the increase of merit will decrease. When the mind is capable, with a vast intention, immeasurable merit will increase, as it is said in the sutra: "Even if the object of giving is small, a vast intention is the most supreme." Therefore, strive to recognize even the waving of an arm or the arising of a single thought, and strive to suppress the opposing factors of merit, and strive to accumulate virtuous dharmas, this should be regarded as the very staircase of the Mahayana. From the "Treasury of Precious Qualities." This is the commentary on the fifth chapter of the "Collection of Four Great Wheels."
