The collection of the four great wheels, which is the commentary on the fifth chapter. Now, in order to show the four great wheels as the beginning of entering the path of the supreme being of the Great Vehicle, the all-knowing, it is said: Rely on those who are in a suitable place. Obtaining qualities from attending to noble persons. For good wishes and the seven protections of merit. The Dragon King said these are the four great wheels. What is said is a brief statement. Just as the path traveled by cattle and elephants for many days is cut short in an instant by the movement of a chariot carried by the four wheels. The bodhisattvas who travel on the chariot of the noble path must possess the four great wheels in order to travel to the state of omniscience. What are the four? Being in a suitable place is one that is harmonious, without discord, and free from the fear of harm. Relying on a noble person is distinguished by the qualities of complete scripture or complete realization. Likewise, whether as a lama or as a friend, one should be trustworthy, eloquent, tolerant of words, and able to explain profound meanings, since words are the source of all faults and virtues. As it is said in the Letter to a Friend: The Victorious One taught three kinds of words—pleasing, truthful, and false—like honey, flowers, and impure things. Abandon the last of these. Pleasant words are like honey, falling upon the heart; truthful words are like flowers, worthy of praise, possessing both. False words are a place of reproach, like impurity, abiding in abandoning harsh words. If one learns after that, discipline, learning, generosity, and wisdom will increase, and one will turn away from what is not the place; such a one is called a noble person. Good wishes are to accomplish well by doing as one has said. Desiring the protection of merit is to have accumulated collections from past lives up to the present. As the Dragon King said: Abiding in a harmonious place, relying on a noble person, oneself
