If there is a fault, consider it as a cause for the exhaustion of sins. In general, there is no fault in the place of the lama, but in terms of being close, it arises from disrespectful actions, so one should reflect on one's own mistakes and strive to confess, so that the interdependence is not mistaken. Regarding the manner of conduct, the way to attend is: When the lama rises, do not sit on the seat. When he is seated, inquire about his health and offer necessities. When he departs, do not walk in front, behind, or to the right. Disrespecting the seat and vehicle, etc., diminishes merit. Do not knock on doors and windows, do not be pretentious, do not frown. Do not lie, do not entrust things casually, do not laugh loudly, do not speak irrelevant words. Do not be disrespectful or unafraid, do not be indifferent. Abandon these and attend with the three doors of body, speech, and mind in peace. In this world, even for the sake of happiness and fame in this life, and just to receive food and clothing, one must treat kings and officials as masters, even using one's body, speech, and life as servants. Even non-Buddhists endure the asceticism of the five fires. Therefore, to attend to the lama with body and speech, aiming for liberation and omniscience, is to take great essence from a meaningless body. As it was said before: Even if one does not know or understand all the Dharma, By greatly honoring and serving the lama who has become holy, One will cross the ocean of samsara. Therefore, when the lama rises, do not jump up from the seat abruptly. When he is seated, offer your own clothes, etc., as a seat. Inquire about his health. Offer necessities. When he departs, spread mats on the road. Dust off the dust. Hold an umbrella. Do things like laying carpets. Wrap dirty things with cloth. Arrange the vehicle and palanquin, etc. And also go as an attendant. Moreover, the right side is the head of the line, so avoid it. Walking in front is the beginning, so it is not allowed.

Do not compare, do not spit or blow your nose in front of the guru, do not smoke with the vajra posture and seductive gestures, do not show stiff behavior, do not walk, sit, or lie down quietly, do not open and close doors roughly, do not glare, do not frown and clap your hands, do not point and stretch your legs, and avoid sitting like a beggar or waiting for alms. The General Collection says: When staying in the same room with holy beings, never do so except as an attendant. Do not step over the shadow of the guru's body, and do not raise the dust from the guru's footprints. Do not step over the guru's clothes, hand cushions, seat cushions, etc. at any time. Disrespectful and other improper behaviors are not dignified in front of holy beings. So it is. Similarly, the faults of mind and speech are: In the "Inquiry of Excellent Wisdom Sutra," it says: The cause of the emergence of the dark world, the mind is the root of poison. In order to produce sinful speech, the mouth is the door of sin. The sutra says this, especially holding opposite views on the actions of the virtuous friend, being greedy for the guru's wealth and activities, jealousy, arrogance, slander, harmful thoughts, harm, contempt for lineage, appearance, and enjoyment, etc., are subtle faults of the mind. Falsehood, divisive speech, harsh words, frivolous talk, disobeying teachings or contradicting words, holding grudges, arguing, speaking ill behind one's back, etc., are more serious sins because saying them once in front of the guru becomes the work of demons, compared to saying them hundreds of thousands of times at other times. The "Noble Qualities Adornment Sutra" says: There are four demonic deeds: disrespecting the guru, not keeping the Dharma in mind, speaking arrogant words, and being attached to this life. Also, the "General Collection Sutra" says: Why do you do uncertain and false actions to those who have become holy? Deceiving all those who have become holy, that person will fall into the Vajra Hell. Therefore, any false thoughts and actions done in front of the guru are because of having deceptive thoughts. Since the essence of all holy beings is the same, it will become deceiving all holy beings, therefore, the result will be the same. Similarly, do not be angry, do not speak harsh words, do not be dissolute, and do not be negligent.
