What I practice is the most supreme, it is to take generosity as the essence, as a sacred field of great benefit, to accumulate merit, and it is also the excellent place of merit. Because the Three Jewels are all gathered, therefore, the venerable Lama is praised in the name of the four. As it is said in the Buddha Samyoga: "Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, the Lama is also the fourth." Moreover, being the essence of all mandalas, the great teacher said: "The Lama is the Buddha, the Lama is the Dharma, likewise the Lama is the Sangha, the doer of all, incomparable, the Lama is the great glorious Heruka." The reason for saying this is that the unchanging nature of the Buddha is the Dharmakaya that possesses all virtues. If one does not rely on the Lama, one cannot attain it by any other means. Therefore, it is also said in the Sutra Collection: "Even if one becomes a Buddha for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, one should know the importance of the teacher. Why did all the Buddhas of hundreds of thousands of kalpas arise by relying on the teacher?" The Kalachakra also explains the same. Because of this, all the Buddhas of the ten directions pay homage and praise the virtuous holy being. As mentioned earlier: "For the wise who have meaning, in all times of the past, present and future, all the Sugata Tathagatas who dwell in the ten directions come, paying homage with praise and respect." Similarly, when holy beings are born, pass into Nirvana, ascend from ground to ground, and show special deeds, the earth shakes, rainbows, light, sound, etc., the world trembles and many wonderful phenomena appear, which are also done by gods, nagas, yakshas, etc. who like the Dharma, and are a symbol of gathering. As mentioned earlier: "Bodhisattvas, gods and humans, as well as nagas, yakshas and rakshasas with wrong views, all vidyadharas gather, scattering manifested flowers, Lama, excellent spiritual friend, you are the father of all of us." And so on, widely spoken. Through definite words, the Lama is also said to be the supreme field of merit, as mentioned earlier: "Therefore, offering to a thousand Buddhas for a thousand kalpas is not as good as offering a drop of sandalwood to each pore of the Lama.

Even a thousand rains cannot penetrate. (From Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra) And from the Samputa Tantra, it says: Because the merit of offering to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions is not as great as offering to a single pore of the guru. Therefore, offering to the guru is seen by the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Like this, the brother of the Tathagata, a king named Gawa, when he was born as the son of Krika, he pleased the Buddha Light Protector by anointing him with scented oil, and as a result, his skin turned golden. Later, when he vowed to erect an umbrella over the stupa of the Buddha's relics, he attained all the marks of a Chakravartin. Therefore, the merit of serving the "Buddha" who pretends to be a virtuous friend in front of those who have gathered many disciples will only become the cause of the Perfection of Wisdom and will never be wasted in the Bardo. Therefore, eight pleasing items should be offered. In the General Sutra, it says: Faith without weariness, Gentleness without arrogance, Wealth without stinginess, Service without hesitation, Honesty without deceit, Self-discipline without flattery, Wisdom without ignorance, Sincerity without defilement, these eight, Offer completely to the holy one. Perfect the teachings and practices of the holy one, Completely liberate the continuum, Go unimpeded to all that is knowable. By untying the knots of one's own continuum, Wisdom flies like a bird in the sky. So it is said. First, to please the guru with material offerings, as it says in the same text: The kingdom and one's own body, Children, wives, and wealth, The most cherished and pleasing, Offer the supreme treasure to the holy one. Thus, even if the guru does not need or want these things, from the point of view of one's own generosity, if it pleases the guru, then one must definitely offer them. If the thought "I must offer" arises from the depths of one's heart, one will obtain the same merit as actually offering. Secondly, to accomplish the pleasure of the guru with service of body and speech, in the Bodhisattva Pitaka, it says: In order to obtain meaning from this meaningless body, one should please the guru, and even if one has nothing, one should offer at least a jar full of water. And, in the previous Tantra, it says: One's own body should also be used as much as possible, and redeemed with wealth of whatever value. Thus, to obtain meaning from this meaningless body.
