Ji! Like the dust following the wind, the tip of the kusha grass. Thus it is connected. In this way, the disciple's disposition and thoughts, as well as the degree of his mind, are known only by the guru himself. Therefore, whether he is encouraged to live in seclusion, or encouraged to benefit beings, or to abide in his own place, whichever of the three is indicated, if it can be done, there will be no obstacles. From the disciple's own point of view, unless permitted, one should not always be separated from the virtuous friend. As it is said in the Sutra of the Collection: Therefore, do not always be separated from the excellent guide, just as the body and the shadow are, if wisdom is familiar, it will become excellent. And, the merchant's son Norzang, followed the Holy Manjushri like a shadow and praised him, the Holy One said: To be close to the guru and to serve him is the basis for accomplishing great enlightenment, therefore, be close to him and serve him, do not be discouraged. Our teacher, when he passed into nirvana between two sala trees, did not separate from the fourfold retinue, nor did he cut off the gate of the Dharma that completely liberates from the five aggregates. As it is said in the Avatamsaka Sutra: Whichever lamps of the world have not yet come, they will successively attain Buddhahood, turn the wheel of Dharma, and show the end of nirvana and peace, I pray before all the protectors. Thus, in the future state, I also make the aspiration, just as the youth Norzang relied only on the virtuous friend, in the future, I aspire to become the commentary on the conduct and aspiration of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, and I should also refer to the Elephant of Direction treatises, etc. Again, with the false and cunning tongue of an evil person, approaching the guru like an elephant smeared with incense, after obtaining the reward of the excellent Dharma, he then abandons the vows with great interest in hunting. To this, first of all, the disciple, whether he is a great person or, an extremely strict person, should not be suitable. It is very important that the person is of good character, if the person is of good character, relying on the accumulation of merit such as faith and wisdom, he can improve more and more. But the kind of person with bad character is difficult to tame, speaks one thing and thinks another, thoughts and actions are inconsistent, difficult to satisfy and jealous, afflictions are coarse and the antidote is weak, skilled in false pretenses, from the beginning he has the intention of deceiving the Dharma and the guru.

Keeping the view in mind, but without any renunciation or devotion, pretending to be respectful, trying by various means to obtain such instructions and transmissions from this teacher, thinking in front of others that we are of a nobler lineage than him, or that because our wealth far surpasses his, it will harm merit and glory, not thinking of the kindness of the guru who is the source of Dharma, like a hunter. Viewing the Dharma as wages, just listening to it by various means, and in the end, in terms of samaya, like a hunter, abandoning shame and concern. Such people themselves will be short-lived and inauspicious, and in the future will wander in the lower realms. Moreover, it will also harm the guru's life and activities, and cause flaws in the Dharma lineage, so it is very important to examine the basis of the person. As it is said in the commentary on the "Three Statements on Samaya": "Reviling the Vajra Master of Secret Mantra, exchanging Dharma for wealth, not keeping samaya with reason, these people are short-lived in this life, their glory and good fortune decline, they suffer from the punishment of the dakinis, and in the future they will fall into the lower realms." Also, those who are narrow-minded and ignorant, after obtaining the essential points of the instructions, give them up again, and in the end are exhausted by searching for various kinds of documents, not seeing the new ones, and losing all the old ones. There is a type of person who, because their minds are extremely narrow, must hear all the Dharma, and after hearing it, they do not practice it, but only collect documents. Without any definite knowledge of the difference between Dharma and non-Dharma, they engage in new and annoying debates, and for such people, not a single blessing of the guru lineage will enter, and what has entered before will also vanish like mist. Instructions that are not practiced and are accompanied by doubt are of no benefit to oneself or others. This is like the story of the Brahmin woman in which the hunter hunts the wild boar. It is very important to examine the characteristics of these three types of people: those who apply the correct view to practice, those who desire to practice for this life, and those who are neutral and have no clear indication of either.
