One should generate. Towards the virtuous friend, one should generate the perception of a valiant escort. Again, son of lineage, you should generate the perception of yourself as a merchant. Towards the Dharma, one should generate the perception of gathering merchandise for trade. Towards diligent practice, one should generate the perception of accomplishing profit. Towards the virtuous friend, one should generate the perception of a captain. Again, son of lineage, you should generate the perception of yourself as a boat. Towards the Dharma, one should generate the perception of a boat. Towards diligent practice, one should generate the perception of crossing to the other shore of the river. Towards the virtuous friend, one should generate the perception of listening to a wise person. As it is said, the perilous straits of birth and death have no escape, and being tormented by hundreds of afflictions such as desire, if we do not rely on the supreme physician who knows all, then it is indeed extreme ignorance, as Shantideva said: Even if one is afraid of ordinary diseases, One should act according to the doctor's instructions, What need is there to say when diseases of hundreds of faults, such as desire, constantly attack? Even that one (desire) can destroy all the people living in the world, If other medicines to cure them cannot be found from all directions, Then towards the doctor who knows all, And the one who removes all suffering, The mind that does not follow his teachings, Is a place of extreme ignorance and reproach. So it is. The characteristics of a bad disciple are: A disciple who relies on this

The qualities of the earth, the Guru, are unseen. One is not tamed, but instead generates various afflictions, seeing all evil discriminations as the Guru's faults. If one receives generosity and benefits from the Guru's wealth, assets, and enjoyments, new faith and reverence will slightly increase. But this is also conditioned, like the changing of the four seasons, one cannot even be sure of morning and evening. To such a person, even if one earnestly urges at first, saying, "You will attain happiness in both this life and the next, enter the path of the Dharma!" they will be startled and flee, like tending to an unruly mountain goat. Even if they enter the Dharma in the middle, they will be annoyed by the very names of hearing, contemplation, and meditation, thinking that they have entered the Dharma gate for the sake of great worldly affairs. Finally, when they turn their minds slightly towards hearing, contemplation, and meditation, they will think that attaining merit and great gain in these three realms is the true holy Dharma. Even attaining the status of Brahma and a Chakravartin king cannot compare to it. Therefore, the evil demon is very distressed, because even if one sentient being in the desire realm attains Buddhahood, they fear that their territory will be reduced. When the mind becomes unmanageable, the arrow of the demon pierces the heart. The Vajrasekhara Sutra says, "Obstacles do not come from elsewhere, one's own mind is the demon." Like this, the first entrance to going astray is to have various thoughts in front of the Guru, feeling uneasy, thinking, "There are better ways to practice than this, it is better to go to a secluded place than this." Deceiving the Guru and Dharma friends with words and thoughts. Once one leaves the monastery, the mind is like a wild horse unleashed. At that time, all directions are filled with children and sinful friends, associating and befriending them, even if the Dharma is slightly damaged, or not damaged, their thoughts are like a wild man on the edge of the forest, controlled by greed, hatred, and delusion. Their behavior is like the tip of a Kusha grass bending and swaying with the wind, conforming to them. Therefore, when staying in the presence of the holy ones, one longs to flee; wherever one goes, one is seized by sin; if one is specifically urged to go to a secluded place, the Dharma
