It is only by doing so that, if it is initiated with a strong afflicted mind, even if one does not actually commit small evils, one will experience great vipāka, and it is not from the time of action that one has long focused on accumulating for that purpose. Afterwards, if one suppresses the mind of the evil deeds done with the antidote of strong regret, then the power will be small. Similarly, the correct view of all Buddhists, that is, those who do not trust in the certainty or infallibility of karma and its effects, believing that there is a next life, even if they listen, think, and meditate on the three and give alms and other good deeds, because of the wrong view of not believing in cause and effect, the vipāka will be reversed. As it says in the Suhrllekha: If you wish to attain higher realms and liberation, you should cultivate the habit of right view. Even if a person practices well with wrong views, all maturation will be unfavorable. Some people associate the word "right view" with the ultimate truth, but because it is related to the fruit of higher realms, it is a worldly right view, as the Bhagavan said: A great person who has worldly right view will not fall into the lower realms even after a thousand kalpas. This is clear. Those who have great faith in cause and effect can generate great fruits even from small causes of merit, so the example of the importance of motivation is: In the past, a monk begged alms from a householder, and the householder said: If you are an arhat, I will offer it, otherwise I will not give it. The monk said: I am not an arhat, and then he left. Again, because he was humble, he thought he must be an arhat, so he said: Monk, please come back. Whether he was an arhat or not, he offered it after expounding the Dharma in an upright manner, so he obtained the merit of offering to an arhat. Therefore, it is determined by the goodness or badness of the motivation, and not by following the size of the form of good and evil. If the root is medicine, then the sprout is also medicine. If the root is poison, what need is there to mention the sprout? It is determined by the motivation of good and non-good, and not by following the size of the image of good and evil. Thus combining the metaphor and the meaning, motivation

If so, then the actions of body and speech, which temporarily manifest in other forms, also become solely virtuous, which is the state of Mahayana. The Ratnavali states: Without attachment, without hatred, without ignorance, the actions produced by these are virtuous. It also says: The virtue of a bad motivation is the image of virtue. Attachment, hatred, and ignorance, the actions produced by these are non-virtuous. Moreover, the Sutra states: With a good intention, placing two shoes on the head of the Buddha, and similarly, others removing them, both will attain kingship. Therefore, it is thoroughly understood that because of the concern that rain would damage the Buddha image, and the fear that the image would be harmed, both of these intentions became the cause for attaining kingship. In short, this is the occasion for mainly showing the differences in the weight of virtuous and non-virtuous actions of beings in the desire realm. Therefore, it is said: Constancy and attachment, without antidote, virtue as the main, actions arising from the basis, these five are the weights of virtue and vice, and the manner of approaching them is well explained. That is to say, the heaviness of an action is caused by the differences in four causes: application, intention, antidote, and basis. Among them, first, the difference in application is constancy, that is, even a small action is practiced for a long time. For example, even for the sake of doing a small harm to other beings, one constantly immerses oneself in that bad thought from a long time ago. Second, the difference in intention is attachment, that is, although the actual action is short in duration, it is accompanied by strong afflictions and extreme joy, angrily, excitedly, threateningly, with the mind not placed on anything other than that action. For example, when King Ashoka was tormented by sinful thoughts, at the beginning of the day, if actions such as killing were not completed, his mind could not be calmed, and he would not even eat. Third, the difference in antidote is that if the action that has been done relies on the nature of Bodhicitta and the Three Jewels, and is suppressed by powerful antidotes such as confession, it will become weak, while that action itself, if there is no antidote and it is done arbitrarily, will become powerful.
