Harboring malice and anger towards Bodhisattvas, as well as uttering harsh words and slandering them, are all extremely grave sins. Moreover, it is stated in the Sutra of Decisive Miraculous Power: 'Killing all sentient beings in Jambudvipa, or robbing them of their possessions, is not as great a sin as obstructing a Bodhisattva from giving a handful of food to an animal.' Similarly, from the perspective of offerings, even liberating all sentient beings from prisons and establishing them in the bliss of a Chakravartin and Brahma, is not as meritorious as uttering a slight praise to a Bodhisattva. The reason for this is stated in the Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds: 'Listeners, middle Buddhas, all are born from the Buddha, but the Buddha is born from the Bodhisattva, the mind of compassion and non-dual wisdom, the mind of Bodhi is the cause of the Buddha's sons.' This means that Hearers and Solitary Realizers arise dependent on the Buddha, while the Buddha arises from the mind of Bodhi, and compassion, emptiness, and the mind of Bodhi are all the causes of the Buddha. Furthermore, from the perspective of the basis, ordained Bodhisattvas are more excellent than lay Bodhisattvas. In the Noble Heap of Jewels Sutra, it is said: 'A lay Bodhisattva offering lamps with wicks as large as Mount Meru in as much butter as the ocean, is not as beneficial as an ordained Bodhisattva offering lamps with wicks smeared with sesame oil.' Because of this, the boldness of Bodhisattvas cannot be overcome by anyone other than the Buddha. The great Bodhisattva Licchavi Vimalakirti, because of his high regard for the teachings, first prostrated to the Hearer disciples, and then, with the words of the irreversible wheel of Dharma, overwhelmed the boldness of all, including the great Hearer disciples and the one-birth-bound Bodhisattva Maitreya. Even so, for those holy beings who have perfected the three vows and attained supreme accomplishment, and for the yogis who have realized the absence of inherent existence, there are still many points to be examined. Therefore, regarding the objects of refuge, reliance on parents, thoughts driven by intense afflictions, constantly engaging in non-virtuous deeds, and the opponent of repentance,

These, such as lacking patience, are the lowest of the four ways to purify karma, which is purification through experience. Regarding this, Master Vasubandhu said, "Visible dharma, etc., and experiencing change, etc., are the three certain aspects." For example, the visible dharma of Devadatta, who, with hatred in his heart towards the Buddha, fell into hell as the earth split open and he fell into the burning flames, is experiencing change. Also, the story of how when Buddhism first appeared in China, someone slandered cause and effect, and that person turned into a snake while sleeping in bed, and how in the past someone said that the Sangha were women, and they changed their gender there, etc., are visible dharma experiencing change. Also, there are cases where one takes the body of a woman for a hundred lifetimes, and other times where both experiencing and change are complete. If there is karma that will definitely lead to rebirth in the lower realms, then in that life one cannot even attain the patience of the path of application. If there is karma that will definitely lead to rebirth in the desire realm, then one will not attain the fruit of detachment from desire. If there is some karma that will definitely lead to rebirth in samsara, then in that life one cannot be liberated from samsara. Therefore, do not ever say that realizing the nature of mind does not require cause and effect. Thinking that one has realized it is itself a sign of not having realized it. Because one has not realized the nature of mind, one develops the nihilistic view of thinking that cause and effect are not necessary. As it says in the Garland of Jewels, "Saying there is no fruit of karma, in short, is nihilism, non-virtue leads to the lower realms." It is like that. Regarding the order in which the fruits of good and bad karma ripen, the one with the greater power ripens first. If the powers are equal, then whichever good or bad thought is closer at the time of death will ripen first. If both of those are equal, then whichever one has a stronger habituation will ripen first. The habituation also ripens according to the order in which it was accumulated. As it says in the Treasury of Knowledge, "In the wheel of karma, whichever is heavier, whichever is closer, whichever is more habituated, whichever was done first, the earlier one will ripen first." In summary, there are three types of karma: karma that is entirely white, karma that is entirely black, and karma that is mixed and does not belong to either of the two. The first is when everything from the basis, intention, action, to the final result is entirely occupied by virtuous thoughts, and it is never mixed with negative karma. The second is when everything from the basis, intention, action, to the final result is entirely
