The city is surrounded by seven layers of jewel walls, with trenches between the walls, filled with water and lotuses, making it very beautiful. In the four corners of the top of the mountain king, there are buildings, inhabited by the Yaksha deity race called Vajrapani (Tibetan: ལག་ན་རྡོ་རྗེ་). From the beautiful city, at a distance of twenty yojanas, there are four pleasure gardens of the gods. All the roads between the gardens and the lands are beautifully shaped and smooth to walk on, sprinkled with sandalwood water. They are filled with tame horses, elephants, and vehicles such as chariots. Among them, the elephant-protected son, whose body is a thousand yojanas, is described in mindfulness as being of the nature of emanation. The best horse is the one with the power of clouds. Those crossroads are also covered with various flowers such as lotuses and great lotuses. The ponds with water birds make pleasant sounds, and there are always trees whose cotton can be made into clothes, and various kinds of flowers. In the northeast of that excellent city is the base where the gods gather, the foundation of Mount Meru. The tree that emerges from underground is called "the place where all trees gather." Its trunk rises a hundred yojanas upwards, and its branches spread in four directions, filled with leaves, flowers, and fruits. All the tops are round like umbrellas, from which hang precious nets and divine garments, and the light illuminates all directions. The fragrant scent spreads for a hundred yojanas. Under that tree where the gods can obtain the desired qualities as soon as they think of them, there is a stone slab as white as an amonika jewel, fifty yojanas wide, beautifully shaped, decorated with a hundred colors, with a smooth surface that sinks when pressed and expands when lifted. All around the stone slab are trees, flowers, clothes, jewels, ornaments, musical instruments, nectar, a hundred flavors of food, various vehicles, and tiered houses, filled with many sons and daughters of the gods who play and sing and dance. On top of the stone slab, the mandara flowers cover it up to the knees. In the center of the slab, Indra's throne is surrounded by the thrones of other gods. The gods gather there, and it does not appear spacious when there are few, nor does it appear crowded when there are many. The thirty-three gods gather there in the first month of summer and enjoy the pleasures of the five senses. In the southwest of that beautiful city is the Sudharma Hall, the assembly place of the gods. It is a completely circular building, nine hundred yojanas in circumference. In the center is an octagonal pillar made of vaidurya, the top of which is only a hair's breadth away from touching the foundation of the building.
