If a human body is as rare as a wish-fulfilling tree, then other favorable conditions are even rarer, like the udumbara flower. In the Sutra of Explaining Realizations, it says: To the north of the great Lake Anavatapta, there is a mountain called Five Peaks Mountain, and across from that mountain is the udumbara garden. When the Buddha Bhagavan descends from the heaven of Tushita and enters his mother's womb, that garden will begin to bud. When he is born from his mother's womb, that garden will open. When he attains the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment, the flowers of that garden will also bloom. When he abandons the aggregates of life, that garden will wither. When he passes completely into nirvana, the leaves, flowers, petals, and fruits of that garden will also fall. In the Essence Chapter, it also says: The appearance of Buddhas in the world is difficult to obtain, just like the example of the udumbara flower. Both of these, having the basis of leisure, are called a precious human body for a complete individual. As an example of how difficult it is to obtain, in the Letter to a Friend, it says: 'Living in the same great ocean,' and so on, the meaning of which is explained in detail in the sutras themselves. Monks, in a world that has become a single ocean, there lives a blind sea turtle that lives a long life, and it surfaces once every hundred years. In that great ocean, there is a yoke with a single hole, and when it is blown by the east wind, it drifts to the west. When it is driven by the west wind, it drifts to the east. Likewise, in a hole that drifts in all directions, will the turtle's neck fit in or not? The disciples replied: Even if the sea were small, it might fit, but the sea is too large. Even if the yoke were fixed in one direction and had many holes, it might fit, but it drifts east, west, north, and south, and there is only one hole. The turtle does not stay still, but always floats on the surface of the ocean, and if it had eyes, it might fit, but it appears only once every hundred years, and it has no eyes, so it is impossible for it to fit. Monks, that blind sea turtle

Just as the head growing upwards gets caught in the hole of the yoke, monks, obtaining a human birth is even more difficult, it is self-evident. Therefore, do not let this leisure become meaningless. If leisure is lost, it cannot be recovered later. Similar content is also extensively discussed in the Garland of Flowers. If it is so difficult to obtain a human body, and if you think about how many people are gathered here, in general, having a leisured human body is like a mustard seed on the tip of a needle. Especially considering the number of other beings, it is extremely difficult to even obtain a human body. For example, a human body is like a star in the daytime, and animals are like stars at night. Animals are like stars in the daytime, and hungry ghosts are like stars at night. Hungry ghosts are like stars in the daytime, and hells are like stars at night. As it is said: Animals are like the dregs of alcohol in the outer ocean, hungry ghosts are like a blizzard, and hells are as numerous as the fine dust of the great earth. These can also be understood through reason. Look at the creatures seen in a forest, a river, a beehive, or a ray of sunlight. All container worlds are like empty villages without humans or cities. Obtaining a human body is fewer than the number of universal monarchs. If you think about humans, it's like a gathering watching a performance in a big city, with various ethnicities such as India, China, Mon (Bhutan), Nepal, Zhangzhung, Kashmir, Mongolia, etc. Among so many people, those who enter Buddhism, study Buddhism, or have faith in Buddhism, and who adopt or reject based on cause and effect, are even rarer than the appearance of a Buddha in the world. Therefore, you must bring joy to yourself and strive not to waste leisure. In the Vinaya-Vibhanga, it says: Monks, look at the beings in the lower realms, it is very difficult to obtain a human body again. Look at these teachers with wrong views, it is very difficult to meet a true spiritual friend. Look at these immoral people who have fallen from discipline and liberation, abiding in the qualities of practice.

Therefore, one should wholeheartedly practice virtuous Dharma, and happily spend one's life under a tree or in a monastery. Thus it is said. Fifth, generating joy from the perspective of benefits, and advising that when one obtains leisure, it is the time to strive in Dharma, thereby summarizing the essential point: Therefore, when the great ship of leisure is seized, if one does not cross the ocean of suffering, the traveler on the path of Dharma should be diligent and seek opportunities.
