Then (people) began to take and store, and everyone became accustomed to it. Due to the fault of storing, the rice became chaffy. After that, a person with a bad nature said, "This rice field is mine," and divided the fields, and everyone fell into jealousy and arrogance. Due to the difference in thoughts, the amount of merit caused the harvest of the fields to be good or bad. The bad people could not survive, so they began to steal and beg from the good people. Due to the effect of karma, this was also close to exhaustion. A person with a good nature distributed (food) equally to everyone, although his own share was reduced, everyone was satisfied, so they elected him as king, and a king who was respected by the masses appeared. Among the people, some turned their minds away from their families and focused on cleanliness, and were called Brahmins. Those who lived at home and mainly respected their parents were called the Jyeu caste. Those who do not recognize their father as their father, their mother as their mother, and do not recognize the elders of their clan as elders, and who act violently by killing, stealing, and committing adultery, are judged to be outcasts or Chandalas. Even if there is a mixture of castes, or if such behavior suddenly appears, it is explained as being demoted to the outcast caste, so in India, even today, great importance is attached to protecting the caste. Even so, the Lokayata (materialist) school claims that the four castes originated from the mouth of Brahma (Great Brahma). After that, they plowed the mountains with wooden plows and planted some beans, and buckwheat, which is earlier than grain, appeared. After that, agricultural production greatly developed, and villages, regions, kings' palaces, and cities developed on a large scale. When human lifespan was eighty thousand years, almost the entire Jambudvipa was filled with cities, like the distance a crow flies, prosperous, flourishing, happy, with good harvests, and full of people and beings. Now, at the end of these five hundred years, even between the distances of yojanas and kroshas, there are no villages or cities. All the traces that appeared in the past are also facing extinction. Not prosperous, declining from prosperity, bad harvests, few people and beings, and many hells and bardo states. People strive and struggle to obtain these (wealth), but those who aspire to the path of liberation and omniscience are as rare as stars in the daytime, so this is just a story of sadness and impermanence in the intermediate period.

In short, the formation of the higher realms has been explained. Next, how the lower realms are formed: they arise from the accumulation of the three poisons on the basis of the higher realms. In particular, from the karma of anger, one accumulates the karma of becoming the lord of hell, and is born as Yama, the King of the Dead. Beneath him, the guardians of hell appear in various forms, such as the faces of rakshasis, dogs, birds, copper, boiling water, piles of fire, and various weapons, all of which are manifestations conjured up by their respective karmic appearances. Thus appearing, sentient beings who experience suffering are the hell beings of Avici (Uninterrupted Hell), Tapana (Very Hot Hell), Uṣṇa (Hot Hell), Mahāraurava (Great Crying Hell), Raurava (Crying Hell), Sanghata (Crushing Hell), Kālasūtra (Black Thread Hell), and Saṃjīva (Reviving Hell). To the north near the eight hot hells are hells that crack like a great lotus, hells that crack like a lotus, hells that crack like an utpala, hells where teeth chatter, hells that cry "kyi hud", hells that cry "a chu", hells where blisters burst, and hells with blisters, which are the eight cold hells, along with sixteen neighboring hells, all formed by the power of karma. As explained in the Bodhicaryāvatāra, these hells, according to the Mahayana view, are formed from habitual sinful thoughts. If, due to a misunderstanding, one thinks that they do not actually exist, then if someone says that they themselves do not actually exist, it is impossible for the image of karma to appear as an obvious fact, and the fault of non-establishment will arise. The karma accumulated through desire appears as pretas (hungry ghosts) with outer obscurations, pretas with inner obscurations, pretas with shared karmic obscurations, and pretas with doorway obscurations. The karma accumulated through ignorance leads to beings becoming animals that devour each other, subjected to exploitation, abuse, and various forms of suffering. So, how do we determine the beginning and end of the formation of the outer world and the inner sentient beings? From the initial formation of the wind mandala in the pure space, until a sentient being is born experiencing suffering in Avici Hell, this period is one intermediate kalpa for the formation of the outer world. The formation of inner sentient beings requires nineteen intermediate kalpas, for a total of twenty intermediate kalpas. The above is the determination of the mode of formation. Second, the twenty intermediate kalpas of duration consist of: one decreasing kalpa, eighteen increasing and decreasing kalpas, and one increasing kalpa, for a total of three types. The first type, one decreasing kalpa, is the period when the lifespan decreases from immeasurable years to eighty thousand years.
