, "english_translation": "If there is no distinction in terms of qualities, it cannot be relied upon as an object of faith after being tested, and since it is accompanied by hypocrisy, blessings will not enter, so examine it in this way. From the aspect of offering faith and making supplications, it is not to be regarded as a person who abides on the path. In particular, the precious Bodhicitta is the treasury of all qualities, the supreme field of faith. If one is separated from it and confused by mere appearances of fame and relies on it, without looking at whether the student acts according to the Dharma or not, but only looking at whether they are respectful and attentive to oneself, there will be high and low distinctions. Without any purpose or necessity, with worldly deluded actions, during the time when permission has not been obtained, the student will find a free opportunity, and the accumulation of virtue will be wasted. It is like a person who did not examine before, mistook a poisonous snake and the shadow of a tree at night, and rested on it, and as a result was swallowed by the snake. Therefore, the fault of relying on a non-saint is like wrapping a rotten fish with kusha grass, as stated in the Vinaya Sutra: "In front of a person there is kusha grass, if it is wrapped with rotten fish, soon the kusha grass will also become the same. Therefore, relying on a non-saint is also the same." And in the Vidyadhara Pitaka it says: "One who does not understand oneself teaches others, one who has not matured one's own mindstream wants to mature others, one who does not understand the meaning of tantra, agama, and upadesha, foolish words filled with arrogance, selling secret mantras and profound Bon teachings, relying on backing to do Buddhist activities, accumulating sins, having little learning and unable to answer questions, not examining the teacher is the demon of the student." Such a person will obtain immeasurable faults of deceiving sentient beings. In the Ngamjok it says: "The lion of speech, following one who is proficient in the meaning of the lama, if one does not know but pretends, and occupies the position of the lama and works hard, one will definitely fall into the arrogant Great Rudra." In the past, there was a bhikshu named Stainless Conduct who only pretended to be a yogi. Because there were no lamas who were proficient in the meaning living, the hundred thousand retinues of those lamas prayed, 'Please be the successor of our lamas.'

Therefore, the monk named 'Stainless Purification' developed great arrogance and unknowingly acted in a wrong way. Therefore, at that time, at that very moment, he, along with a retinue of a hundred thousand monks, was born as Rudra for countless great kalpas. Such things are extensively taught. Therefore, abandoning errors and relying on a truly holy person is like gaining a great treasure. The lama who possesses all qualities is: The essence of the wisdom and compassion of all Buddhas, who appears in the form of a person in the realm of those to be tamed, is the unsurpassed root of all accomplishments. Being rich in the noble qualities of learning and scripture, and being skilled in liberating the minds of disciples with unsurpassed wisdom of realization, he is the embodiment of all Buddhas. In the Sutra of Immaculate Space, it says: Ananda, the Tathagatas do not appear to all sentient beings, but the virtuous friend appears completely, in order to teach the Dharma and sow the seeds of liberation. Therefore, the virtuous friend is even more excellent than the Tathagatas. And in the Tantra, it says: The Buddhas and their sons, to those who are to be tamed, show forms that are in accordance with them. Furthermore, all accomplishments depend solely on the lama, as it says in the General Sutra: Without relying on the teachers, Buddhas will never appear, and I have never truly seen them appear. If they did appear, it would contradict the holy teachings. The universal practice of actions is also like this: In the provisional meaning, it is in harmony with everything, but in the ultimate meaning, it differs in its arrangements from everything. Those with insight are superior to all, skilled in cutting through doubts, and able to endure the weariness of refuting wrong views. As it is said in the Arrangement of the Tree: What is a virtuous friend? In order to guide all beings, there is no disagreement when seen. Because they transcend the world, they are not common to all. Because their efforts in all ways are meaningful, they accomplish immeasurable benefits. The praise that aligns example and meaning is: A great boat that liberates from the ocean of existence, a true helmsman who does not stray from the supreme path, a rain of nectar that destroys the fires of karma and affliction, like the sun and moon that dispel the darkness of ignorance.
