Whose ears are reached by the letter of fame, which, even with evil debaters, does not harm the speech, mind, glory, and power of the Buddha, and which is the source of all qualities such as names, marks, ten powers, four fearlessnesses, etc., is also shown by combining it with meaningful stories of the past. As it says in the Wish-Fulfilling Vine: A merchant named Norchen, once appeared in Varanasi. His family was fortunate, named Rinchen Den. When he became the fifth master, that woman, with reverence, on the top of the stupa, made offerings and offered a great necklace. By the ripening of merit, she became the daughter of the king of Simhala, named Pearl Vine. In another life, she became arrogant and ignorant because of wealth, and she slandered and mocked offerings, so she became a servant for a long time. Whatever good and bad deeds, are sown as seeds in the field of birth. As it is said, in the Shakya family, a servant named Rohita, after passing away, was reborn as the daughter of the king of Simhala, named Pearl Vine. By the power of her merit, the merchants of Nyen Yod went to the sea and arrived in Simhala. At the end of the night, when they were able to take a breath of rest, they sang the verses of the Dharma spoken by the Buddha. The princess heard it and asked the merchants the reason. They said that this is the word of the Buddha. She only heard the name of the Buddha, and it was like a peacock hearing the sound of thunder, but she did not know the nature of the Buddha, so she asked again. Those merchants spoke of the way of the Blessed One's conduct, which is the nature of merit. Therefore, she gained great joy, greater than the joy of the blooming of a blue lotus, and offered a letter of supplication to the Blessed One. The All-Knowing Blessed One, knowing full well, read the contents of the letter: Alas, you who are obtained by the merchandise of merit, you are mindfulness itself! You are the good medicine of existence that destroys decline, suffering, and craving! The words that come from the Blessed One, bring about the experience of truly touching the ground! Blessed One, this is my nectar, it has become my true great fortune!
