And, the Yaksha female Rakshasa turned away from killing hundreds and thousands of beings; the Yaksha Pukava struck and killed with poison; thousands of ocean fish Tamingla merchants were killed; the fear of frogs falling into evil destinies; the fear of the moon being devoured by Rahu; the fear of the sun being devoured by Asuras; the fear of Indra falling into evil destinies; the Brahma's constant view and the sons of naked heretics engaging in perverse actions; the Brahmin's attachment to renowned lineage, being perverted by hearing the holy Dharma. Master Sahojin thus declared. Similarly, the sons of the gods, being extremely steadfast and the younger brother Gawa, were terrified and frightened by the fear of death, and liberation from it, etc., cannot be fully expressed. These also arise only when the listener abandons the three faults of the vessel, the six stains, and the five faults of non-retention. For example, a vessel with its mouth facing down can never hold essence. When listening to the Dharma, if the mind wanders elsewhere, or falls into drowsiness, or the mind is focused on other objects, then the words and meaning of the Dharma will not be understood. Like a vessel with a hole in the bottom, the essence will leak out. Even if one understands a little, if one does not engage in examining the meaning of the words, then merit will not increase in the continuum. Like a poisonous vessel that makes the essence impure. Thinking and contemplating for the sake of knowledge and fame, for the sake of praising oneself, aiming to refute others in the midst of many; or similarly, engaging in hearing and thinking with evil intentions such as greed for gain and respect, competitive mind, and jealousy, this will not become a cause for Bodhi. Being entangled by sins, it is of no benefit to oneself or others. Therefore, it is crucial to have a good intention. The six stains are: Dignāga said in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: "Arrogance and disbelief, not seeking meaning, external distraction and mental absorption, weariness are the stains of listening." This means, despising the teacher of the expounder, thinking that one's own position is high, or being arrogant thinking that one is proficient in Dharma; or criticizing the faults of the Dharma and the teacher; or harboring malice, not approving of the speech of others, not believing; thinking that it is okay to listen or not, listening casually is okay, not seeking thorough understanding; eyes etc.
