It becomes the cause of the six sense bases, because at that time the six sense bases are perfected. These six sense bases are the gates through which mind and mental factors arise. When these six sense bases are fully mature, and the three—faculty, attention, and object—are combined and manifest, contact arises. For example, just as when the three—form, eye faculty, and eye consciousness—are combined, eye contact arises, the distinction of the support for the arising of contact in the womb from the three—name and form, and consciousness—is only the six sense bases. Furthermore, whatever kind of contact experiences pleasure, accordingly, feelings of pleasure, pain, and neither of the two arise. Thus, the afflictions within are moistened by craving and grasping, which are limbs of becoming, and at the time of death, there will be craving. Then, according to the order of throwing, there will also be birth, and there will also be aging and death. The characteristic of craving is that craving arises from feeling, like craving for the taste of sugarcane because one feels its sweetness, or the opposite, wanting pleasant feelings not to be separated, wanting painful feelings to be separated, and not wanting feelings that are neither of the two to become either of the two. Moreover, the sutra shows three types according to the distinctions of what is practiced in the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm. Grasping is close grasping, which is the desire for longing for desire and so forth. The sutra shows four types according to the distinctions of the object: desire grasping, view grasping, ethical conduct and discipline grasping, and self-view grasping, because desire and so forth are closely grasped by the desire for longing. There is this difference between craving and grasping: craving is the desire for existence to manifest without distinction. Grasping is the desire for existence to manifest with distinction. Alternatively, it should be understood that the distant cause is craving and the near cause is grasping. The seed of actions, moistened by craving and grasping, itself manifests and tends to produce a result, which is called existence. The five aggregates—form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness—are existence. The sutra says that the previous

Just like the existence of the three realms mentioned in the scriptures. However, here it is considered to be only the past existence. After existence comes birth, that is, from the sequence of name and form to feeling. After birth comes aging and death, and so on. Furthermore, if the twelve links of dependent origination are briefly summarized, they can be summarized into four branches, namely: three, four, three, and two, in order. Thus, there are the propelling branch, the propelled branch, the accomplishing branch, and the accomplishing branch. This is explained temporarily by distinguishing between two existences. The sutra says that ignorance and action are the propelling branches of the past extremity. The way the twelve links are divided into three existences is: ignorance and action are the past existence; from consciousness to existence is the present existence; birth and aging are the future existence. Among them, the past existence is that due to ignorance, actions are performed, and from the consciousness that connects the continuum in this life, the maturation is accomplished up to feeling. The love, grasping, and existence that occur in the present generate future births and so on. The necessity of establishing the three existences is to dispel ignorance about the past, future, and intermediate extremities. Thus it is said. Furthermore, dependent origination is established as three paths: ignorance, craving, and grasping are the path of affliction; action and existence are the path of karma; the remaining branches are the path of maturation. This is what the great scholar Wisdom said, which also corresponds to the scriptures. Thus, the way dependent origination is completed from the perspective of continuity is: the Mind-Only school believes that one cycle of cause and effect requires two lifetimes to complete. In the previous life, the six causes of ignorance, action, consciousness, craving, grasping, and existence are completed, and in this life, the remaining six branches are completed as effects. These are internal dependent origination, and external dependent origination is the sprouting of sprouts based on seeds, and so on.
